Taking their title from a MANOWAR song DARK AVENGER could only ever be True Metal. The band was rooted in the Brasília based band ATENA, a Portuguese language Rock n' Roll act centred upon the trio of frontman Mário Linhares, guitarist Leonel Valdez and bassist Wagner Marcello. This formation adopted a Heavy Metal with the adoption of the new name RAT WHITE, soon evolving into DARK AVENGER. Now singing in English and strictly Power Metal in their approach the band delivered the goods in the form of a February 1994 demo tape 'Choose Your Side- Heavy Or Hell'.

For the debut eponymous DARK AVENGER album of 1995 the band line-up stood at lead vocalist Mário Linhares, guitarists Leonel Valdez and Osiris di Castro, bass player Gustavo Vieira, keyboard player Rafael Galvão and drummer Luciano Toledo. DARK AVENGER loaned out their frontman to local Progressive Metal band KHALLICE, Linhares sessioning on their 1996 demo 'The Prophecy'.

The 'Dark Avenger' album would be re-packaged in new sleeve artwork, re-mastered and have the addition of a bonus new track 'Morgana' for a 1998 European re-release through the Italian Scarlet label. The new track featured the new drummer Kayo John.

DARK AVENGER underwent a complete overhaul of personnel following the 2001 album 'Tales Of Avalon - The Terror' with only Mario Linhares surviving. At first Julio Cesar usurped di Castro on guitar but then Marcelo Barbosa ousted the long standing Valdeze and Fabio Hejera became the new bassist.

The singer subsequently built up a brand new band comprising guitar players Hugo Santiago, previously of IGNIS, and Marcus Valls, bassist Michel Brasil, keyboard player Thomas Galuf and drummer Rafael Dantas, the latter a veteran of MORBID WHISPER, LAST RITES, AMALGAMA and RAZORBLADE. Brasil had previously plied his trade with AMALGAMA, GLAMDRING and MENTAL ASYLUM.

DARK AVENGER would contribute (naturally) the track 'Dark Avenger' to a MANOWAR tribute album 'Revenge' issued by the Northwind label in 2002. On 2005 Hugo Santiago exited in order to form VOUGAN.
