Burlington, Southern Ontario Emocore come Hardcore act SILVERSTEIN took their name from author Shel Silverstein, the writer having passed away just prior to the band's formation in early 2000. Their first round of live work that first year was soon capitalised on by the issue of a self financed EP 'Summer's Stellar Gaze'. However, founding guitarist Richard McWalter opted out and was replaced by former MAHARAHJ guitarist Neil Boshart. A second EP, 'When The Shadows Beam', issued in April 2002 secured a deal with the Victory label. The Justin Koop produced 'When Broken Is Easily Fixed' was delivered in May of 2003.

SILVERSTEIN put in a round of North American headline club shows in June before winding up the month performing in Canada alongside label mates SOMEHOW HOLLOW. The band set out on the 'Never Sleep Again' U.S. tour in October, backed by HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS, BAYSIDE and AIDEN. Tragically though, the dates were brought to an abrupt halt on October 31st after BAYSIDE drummer John 'Beatz' Holohan was killed when the band's tour van flipped after hitting a patch of ice outside of Cheyenne, Wyoming. The tour resumed, with BAYSIDE's former slot not being filled as a mark of respect, at the House Of Blues in Anaheim, California on Saturday November 5th.

Throughout February and into April 2006 the band joined the 'Taste Of Chaos' US and Canadian festival tour alongside a mammoth billing comprising DEFTONES, ATREYU, AS I LAY DYING, STORY OF THE YEAR, DREDG, THRICE, FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND, PELICAN, , THE RECEIVING END OF SIRENS, THE CONFESSION, ADAIR, STREET DRUM CORPS, GREELEY ESTATES, MILLIONAIRE and THE SMASHUP. The group unified with IT DIES TODAY and AIDEN for a lengthy run of US dates throughout October and November.

Touring in 2007 saw the band playing at European summer festivals then backed up by RISE AGAINST and COMEBACK KID for gigs in July.

SILVERSTEIN, promoting 'A Shipwreck In The Sand' album, took on US headline shows throughout March and April 2009 supported by NORMA JEAN, BLESS THE FALL and BEFORE THEIR EYES.
