Biography

Technical Trois-Rivières, Québec Death Metal. MARTYR, founded in 1994, opened proceedings with the September 1995 demo session 'Ostrogoth'. Two versions were issued, a three track effort and a secondary tape adding extra track 'Neverending Strife'. A second demo cassette, 'Non Conformis', arrived in 1997. The November 1997 album 'Hopeless Hopes' was a self financed affair. Following recording drummer François Richard made way for Patrice Hamelin. In 1998 MARTYR put in a showing at the infamous Milwaukee Metalfest. Guitarist Daniel Mongrain, whilst retaining his ties to MARTYR, would join GORGUTS in the Autumn of 1999 appearing on their 'From Wisdom To Hate' album. The guitarist also has associations with QUO VADIS and Florida's CAPHARNAUM.

MARTYR's second album 'Warp Zone', featuring GORGUTS vocalist Luc LeMay as guest, arrived in 2000. Co-founder guitarist Pier-Luc Lampron exited in 2001. In October 2004 Dan Mongrain acted as stand in guitarist for CRYPTOPSY.

MARTYR entered Wild Studios in St-Zenon, Quebec in December 2005 with producer Yannick St-Amand to record their third album. As it transpired, 'Feeding The Abscess' released in October 2006, eventually scored a Pierre Rémillard production credit. The album closed with a cover version of VOIVOD's 'Brain Scan', this seeing guest contributions from Blacky (Jean-Yves Theriault) of VOIVOD. To launch the album a show at Montreal's Medley venue on November 11th saw Blacky again guesting on 'Brain Scan'. Mordam Music Group gave 'Feeding The Abcess' a USA release in February 2007.
