Biography

Helsinki Alt-Rock outfit VELCRA date to 1999. The band, created by singer Jessi Frey and guitarist O.D., made its mark by employing both harsh and clean Rap vocals over Industrial styled riffs and were soon snapped up by EMI Records. In 2001 a rhythm section comprising bass player Teb Bonnet and drummer Mikko Herranen was installed. A debut album, co-produced by the band with Jyrki Tuovinen entitled 'Consequences Of Disobedience', was launched in 2002, being backed by the singles 'Can't Stop Fighting', 'Big Brother', 'Test Animals' and 'My Law'.

VELCRA proved an immediate commercial success, with 'Consequences Of Disobedience' peaking at number 5 on the national Finnish charts. A further single, 2003's 'Shine On Me', boasted three live tracks recorded at Tampere's Klubi venue that April plus an Agri-Industrial remix of 'Sisters' by DATMAN. 'Water Is Getting High' followed in 2004.

The 2005 single 'Our Will Against Their Will' entered the charts at number 3, preceding the harder hitting, Jyrki Tuovinen produced second album 'Between Force And Fate'. Intriguingly, backing vocals were credited to the Royal Choir Of Abused Children Of London whilst strings were delegated to the Filthy Fiddlers. However, that same year Bonnet decamped, relocating to London to study the arts, and was replaced by Wille Hartonen, known in the guitar role with IIWANA JULMA. In June 2006, drummer Mikko Herranen left the band to prioritise his other act RUST.
