KINGS OF MODESTY, hailing from Järvenpää, Uusimaa, was created initially as FACE OF MODESTY during 1994, formed by ANCARA guitarist Samuel Hjelt and drummer Rane Simoinen, subsequently enlisting Henkka Tuura, of OLYMPOS MONS, to play bass and Samuel’s older brother Mikael to play keyboards. Various lead singers were employed until the group settled on BROTHER FIRETRIBE's Jason Flinck as frontman.

NIGHTWISH's Emppu Vuorinen produced an opening promotional EP at E-Major studios in 2007. The folowing year work commenced on a debut album, with band members Samuel Hjelt and Jason Flinck acting as producers. By June 2009 'Hell Or Highwater', mixed by LEVERAGE guitarist Torsti Spoof and Jari Mikkola at the Studio Audio then mastered in Finnvox Studios by Mika Jussila, was finalised. LEVERAGE drummer Valtteri Revonkorpi supplied album art. UK imprint Escape Music signed the band to issue 'Hell Or Highwater' in September.
