Biography

The NWoBHM era AIIZ issued a crop of now highly collectable records. Prior to forming AIIZ, guitarist Gary Owens claimed to have been, albeit briefly, a member of DEF LEPPARD. (This assertion is hotly disputed by DEF LEPPARD at the time). AIIZ was a Manchester based melodic hard rock act signed to Polydor during the major labels sudden interest in signing bands during the height of the NWoBHM era. The band promptly toured Britain with GIRLSCHOOL and BLACK SABBATH supporting the 'The Witch Of Berkeley' album. The single 'No Fun After Midnight' came pressed in red vinyl.

Ex-TORA TORA drummer Simon Wright was also a member of the latter day AIIZ, , featuring alongside new bassist Tony Backhouse on the 1982 single 'I'm The One Who Loves You'. This track was written by RUSS BALLARD, no doubt the result of a record company idea, having seen RAINBOW score a singles success with Ballard's 'Since You've Been Gone'.Post AIIZ David Owens, Gary Owens and Simon Wright forged AURORA, releasing a solitary and extremely scarce 7" single 'I'll Be Your Fantasy'. Both Gary Owens and Wright then enrolled into the ranks of TYTAN. Wright, of course, later carved out a name for himself on the international stage with membership of AC/DC, DIO, RHINO BUCKET and UFO. 'The Witch Of Berkeley' album was bootlegged on the Reborn Classics label in 1993.
