Biography
Germany's DEW-SCENTED, despite their innocuous title, trade in a vicious amalgam of Thrash Hardcore Doom Heavy Metal. DEW-SCENTED, founded in Braunschweig, Lower Saxony during 1992 and taking their name from the works of Edgar Allan Poe, made their intentions clear with the 1994 opening demo 'Symbolization'. At this juncture DEW-SCENTED comprised vocalist Leif Jensen, guitarists Jörg Szittnick and Ralf "Shotte" Klein, bass player Patrick Heims and drummer Tarek Stinshoff. Further exposure would be gained with the inclusion of the 'Poems Of Dirt' track on a 1995 Major Records compilation. These sessions would lead to a recording contract with the Steamhammer label for the February 1996 'Immortelle' record. An intensive round of live promotion witnessed supports to EDGE OF SANITY, LAKE OF TEARS, SADIST, MORBID ANGEL and ARCH ENEMY as well as a ten date tour through Italy. With these shows over the group then re-assembled itself, bringing in new members guitarist Florian Müller replacing Szittnick and on the drums Uwe Werning.
The 1998 'Innoscent' album, produced by Dan Swanö and issued by Grind Syndicate Medial, would include a cover version of OVERKILL's 'Fatal If Swallowed'. The band's road schedule saw supports to DEATH, DISMEMBER and NIGHT IN GALES, participation in the 'Summer Clash' festival tour alongside DEICIDE, SIX FEET UNDER and BRUTAL TRUTH and an appearance at the 'Wacken Open Air' event.
The 1999 album 'Ill-Natured' would prove a pivotal point in the band's career as their trademark blend of Death and intricate Thrash came to the fore. Klein had made his exit beforehand, substituted in the studio by Christian Göllner. Festivals showings found the band making their presence felt throughout the Summer in Europe at the 'Wave Gotik Treffen', 'Fuck The Commerce' and ' Summer Breeze' events. Guest spots included gigs with IMMORTAL, PRIMORDIAL, WARHAMMER, VADER, CRYPTOPSY and TANKARD plus a full blown European tour ranked alongside OVERKILL and ANNIHILATOR. During late 1999 DEW-SCENTED drummer Uwe Werning would loan himself to NIGHT IN GALES for tour work.
DEW-SCENTED returned in January 2001 with the 'Inwards' album, recorded as a four piece of Jensen, Müller, Heims and Werning and produced by ex-HOLY MOSES guitarist Andy Classen. The band, having added the DORMANT MISERY, PROTECTOR and DEVOYD credited Hendrik Bache on second guitar, would tour Japan during March of 2001 billed alongside NIGHT IN GALES and DEFLESHED. 'Inwards' would see a January 2002 issue in Japan courtesy of Soundholic Records. Japanese versions included an exclusive track, a cover of SLAYER's 'War Ensemble'.
The band tagged onto the Thrash renaissance DESTRUCTION, KREATOR and SODOM 'Hell Comes To Your Town' for dates in Holland and Belgium during early 2002. Second guitarist Hendrik Bache was added to the ranks in March as gigs into France found the band billed with a mini tour package of NO RETURN, SCARVE and RAIN in May. A further run of European shows would be scheduled commencing September 19th in Eindhoven, Holland, a month's worth of dates supporting CANNIBAL CORPSE. For these gigs the band pulled in the BLO.TORCH credited Marvin Vriesde on additional guitar.
Digipack versions of DEW-SCENTED's August 2003 Andy Classen produced album 'Impact', which had Bache contributing studio bass, added a cover version of TURBONEGRO's 'Hobbit Motherfuckers' plus an extra original composition 'Force-Fed [The Bleeding Scheme]'. A double vinyl set of the new album paired 'Impact' with prior album 'Inwards'.
The band inducted OBSCENITY bassist Alexander Pahl and his band mate Marc Andree "Mücke" Dieken, also active with BK 49 and PAIN FOR PLEASURE, on the drums, the latter acting as a temporary stand in for Uwe Wening whilst the regular sticksman attended university. They then geared up for an exhaustive 2004 touring schedule to promote 'Impact' teaming up with KATAFALK and OUTBURST for a German run of dates in September, British club shows with NILE and MISERY INDEX in December which led up to the 'Xmas' European festivals in a heavyweight package comprising DEICIDE, DESTRUCTION, AMON AMARTH, NILE, GRAVEWORM and MISERY INDEX.
DEW-SCENTED entered Stage One Studios in Borgentreich with producer Andy Classen to record a new album 'Issue VI', featuring a cover version of ZEKE's 'Evil Dead', in January 2005. April gigs witnessed a union with Swedish veterans GRAVE although Florian Müller had exited in favour of Marvin Vriesde of BLO.TORCH and SEVERE TORTURE. Returning to Japan, the band performed as part of the 'Extreme The Dojo Vol. 14' tour in union with HIGH ON FIRE and MISERY SIGNALS in June. To coincide with these dates, Soundholic Records issued the 'Issue VI' album complete with exclusive bonus track 'Full-Blown Revenge'. In outside activity, Leif Jensen guested on Saint Etienne Death Metal band BENIGHTED's 'Identisick' album.
During September 2005 the group partnered with Denmark's MERCENARY and US headline act NEVERMORE for European touring. The band announced European tour dates for January 2006, traversing Poland, Germany, Holland, France, Belgium, Ireland, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and the UK, alongside a heavyweight cast of GRAVE, ABORTED, HURTLOCKER, VESANIA and CRYPTOPSY.
2006 shows witnessed the return of guitarist Florian Müller. German concerts in November were conducted with NOISE FOREST and FALLEN YGGDRASIL prior to December gigs aligned with TRIVIUM and Sweden's WOLF. In outside activity, Hendrik Bache donated guest guitar to RECKLESS TIDE's 'Helleraser' album. Alexander Pahl also featured on a new OBSCENITY album.
DEW-SCENTED announced early 2007 recording plans with producer Jörg Uken at Soundlodge Studio. 'Incinerate', mixed by Andy Sneap and arriving in April, featured Jeff Waters of ANNIHILATOR and Gus G. of FIREWIND guesting with guitar solos on the song 'Perdition for All'. Mille Petrozza from KREATOR provided guest vocals on the track 'Retain The Scars'. Shows across Europe for March and April 2007 aligned the band with NAPALM DEATH, BEHEMOTH, ROOT and MOONSPELL.
