A "Dark Folklore" styled Black Metal band utilizing synthesizers EMPYRIUM began as a fully fledged band project in 1992 before various band members drifted away to leave the group as a duo of vocalist / guitarist Ulf Theodor Schwadorf (a.k.a. Markus Stock) and keyboard player Andreas Bach. With this line-up EMPYRIUM released their first tape 'Der wie ein Blitz vom Himmel Fiel' in December 1994 and subsequently gained a deal with Prophecy Productions. Over a succession of albums EMPYRIUM have radically altered their sound. Markus Stock would aid IN BLACKEST VELVET with guest vocals on their 2001 album 'Edenflow'.

The second album was aided by the flute and cello of Nadine. EMPYRIUM underwent some changes during 2002, dispensing with keyboard player Andreas Bach but confirming the induction of singer Thomas Helm. Ulf Theodor Schwadorf also operates the dirge like SUN OF THE SLEEPLESS. During 2003 Ulf Theodor Schwadorf convened a fresh Horro Metal project entitled THE VISION BLEAK for a debut album 'The Deathship Has A New Captain'. In 2005 Schwadorf and Helm launched Dark experimental project NOEKK under the pseudonyms Funghus Baldachin and F.F Yuggoth for the album 'The Water Sprite'.
