Biography

Osnabrück, Lower Saxony's SECRETS OF THE MOON initially comprised a trio of vocalist / bassist Daevas of MARTYRIUM, guitarist Schizo and drummer Frazer. A demo 'Unearthed Arcana' arrived in their year of formation in 1995. Guitarist Shammash Golden Dawn (a.k.a. Phillip Jonas), enrolling in 1997 as replacement for Schizo, also held membership of TRIUMVIRAT XUL and SAGITTARIUS. The group followed with 'Vanitas' in 1997, this cassette boasting cover versions of BEHERIT's 'Sadomantic Rites' and BLASPHEMY's 'Atomic Nuclear Desolation'.

A 1998 demo tape 'De Musica Mundana' would subsequently see a 2002 CD release through Cicatrix, this re-release adding live tracks including a take on DARKTHRONE's 'Under A Funeral Moon'. During 2000 Darkwind Records released 'Auf Einer Wanderung Durch Goldene Spharen', a split EP in alliance with LUNAR AURORA. Cicatrix also issued the cassette 'Live In Bitterfield 2001'. Sombre Records put out the album 'Stronghold Of The Inviolables', with the MOONBLOOD cover version 'Moonstruck', as a vinyl edition restricted to 200 copies. The following year this album was re-issued as a picture disc vinyl, hand numbered in "blood" to another 200 units. Cicatrix gave 'Stronghold Of The Inviolables' a CD release in 2002.

SECRETS OF THE MOON featured on the infamous Sombre Records 2002 four way split EP 'Black Metal Endsieg III', partnered with BAEL, DARK STORM and ARMAGEDDA. In 2003 guitar Ohtar (Sven Kjaergaard Jensen), from DREAM OF OBLIVION, was recruited and a split EP 'Bestien In Engelsgestalt' would be shared with AVERSE SEFIRA.

Lupus Lounge issued the 'Carved in Stigmata Wounds' album, split into three segments named 'Prophecy', 'Destiny' and 'Extinction', in April 2004. A limited edition digipack version of this album hosted an additional four track EP entitled 'The Ambience Of A Dead Star', this set featuring the DEAD CAN DANCE cover version 'The Protagonist'. That same year A.D. was installed on guitar.

SECRETS OF THE MOON drummer Thrawn, having replaced Frazer, would join Death Metal combo EMBEDDED.

The band issued 'The Exhibitions' EP, limited to 1000 copies and closing with a rendition of DARKTHRONE's 'Under A Funeral Moon', in September 2005. The full-length 'Antithesis' arrived in September 2006. That same year Lupus Lounge granted 'Stronghold of the Inviolables' a re-release, this new addition boasting five extra tracks including the IMPALED NAZARENE cover 'Blood Is Thicker Than Water'.

Daevas quit in 2007, making SECRETS OF THE MOON now no longer in possession of none of its original members. Taking over the position would be female bassist LSK of ANTAEUS, MERRIMACK, VORKREIST, LOVE LIES BLEEDING, HELL MILITIA and CORPUS CHRISTII repute. K.S.A., of NEBELHEER, aided on guitar throughout 2008 into 2009. A switch in labels saw a transition to Prophecy Productions.

Adding session live guitarist Ar (a.k.a. Michael Zech or 'Lord Arioch'), of SAEL, REIGN OF DECAY, ODEM ARCARUM and NEGURA BUNGET, the band supported OBITUARY, LEGION OF THE DAMNED and KEEP OF KALESSIN in Germany in March 2009.

The Marcus Stock produced album 'PRIVILEGIVM' was issued in September. Commencing 14th October in Tampa, Florida, the band teamed up with Switzerland's SAMAEL, BOOK OF BLACK EARTH and headliners MOONSPELL for the 'Night Eternal Above America' tour.
