Biography

All Female Black Metal band founded by former VORPHALACK bassist Tristessa. The group was originally titled LILITH and released a 1997 demo 'Dancing In The Dark Lakes Of Evil' under that name. The 2000 album 'Rise From Within' was produced by Magus Wampyr Daoloth of NECROMANTIA. ASTARTE confirmed they possessed more than novelty appeal with the 2002 release 'Quod Superius Sicut Inferius'. Apparently the band employ the services of a male studio and live drummer from a well known Greek Metal act. However, this individual wishes to remain anonymous.

With their notoriety rising, the band issued the opening demo ''Dancing In The Dark Lakes Of Evil' on CD format through Avantgarde Records in 2003. However, ASTARTE appears to have folded sometime in May of that year, although the 'Sirens' album emerged through Avantgarde Records in 2004. Guest musicians in the studio included Sakis of ROTTING CHRIST on the track 'Oceanus Procellarum' and DIMMU BORGIR's Shagrath featuring on 'Ring Of Sorrow'.

ASTARTE returned in early 2005 with the video 'Black Mighty Gods'. Recordings for a further album for Avantgarde, given a working title of 'Demonized', would be highlighted when it emerged that bassist Tristessa had been engaged in a legal battle over ownership of the ASTARTE brand in competition with ex-member Kinthia. In June the courts decided in Tristessa's favour.

ASTARTE revealed in April 2006 that new album recordings, titled 'Demonized', were set to include a number of high profile guests including ARCH ENEMY frontwoman Angela Gossow, on the track 'Black At Heart', LLOTH's Nicolas Sic Maiis on the track 'God Among Men' and Henri Sattler of GOD DETHRONED on 'Queen Of The Damned'. MAYHEM frontman Attila Csihar featured on the song 'Lycon'.
