AMBEON was the 2001 side project diversion of AYREON mastermind and erstwhile BODINE and VENGEANCE guitarist Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Joining him in this project would be the exceptionally talented young Emmeloord raised singer Astrid van der Veen. The ambient based endeavour, AMBEON being a union of AYREON and 'ambient', was originally intended to be executed as a mainly instrumental project but such was the strength of van der Veen's vocals, then just fourteen years old, the project grew to incorporate vocals as a main instrument. As a solo artist, simply credited as ASTRID, van der Veen had issued the 2000 album 'Beautiful Red'.

Contributing musicians to the 'Fate Of A Dreamer' album included fretless bassist Walter Latupeirissa and drummer Stephen van Haestregt. John and Pat McManus from the band CELTUS supplied a range of traditional instrumentation such as flute, pipes and fiddle.
