SÓLSTAFIR was created in the early 90's by the duo of Aðalbjörn Tryggvason and bass player Halldór Einarsson. The band first emerged with the 1994 demo 'Í Norðri' which led to a deal with Czech label View Beyond for the 'Til Valhallar' EP. Guest vocals on these recordings came from Sindre of ANCIENT OF DAYS. Drummer Guðmundur Óli Pálmason was also active with HEL, subsequently evolving into POTENTIAM.

A promotional release in 1997 had Kola of DARK HERESY on vocals but despite progress Einarsson left for a new life in Australia. His replacement was Svavar Austmann.

SÓLSTAFIR drummer Guðmundur Óli Pálmason sessioned on POTENTIAM's 1999 album 'Balsyn'.
