Biography
Italian singer CHRIS CATENA's debut album boasted a wealth of seasoned Rock talent. Duetting on the track 'Freak Out Tonight' would be the former DEEP PURPLE and BLACK SABBATH star GLENN HUGHES, John Lawton of URIAH HEEP vocalised on 'It's A Long Way To Go' whilst JEFF SCOTT SOTO features on 'What You Gonna Do When Your Love Is Gone'. Guitars came courtesy of Y&T's DAVE MENIKETTI, ex-KISS man BRUCE KULICK, STEVIE SALAS and the erstwhile WHITESNAKE pairing of BERNIE MARSDEN and MICKY MOODY. Rhythm came from TONY FRANKLIN of BLUE MURDER and THE FIRM along with HOUSE OF LORDS and QUIET RIOT player Chuck Wright with drums on hand from ex-WHITESNAKE and OZZY OSBOURNE's Tommy Aldridge and former KISS and BLACK SABBATH's Eric Singer. Keyboards would be crafted by Vivien Lalu of SHADRANE, LALU, MIND'S ORCHARD and HUBI MEISEL repute.
The vocalist would also lend his skills to the track 'Fire Woman' on the 2004 MOONSTONE project album assembled by guitarist Matteo Filippini. The pair united once more, guesting on the Lion Music RITCHIE BLACKMORE tribute album 'Blackmore's Castle Vol. II - Tribute To Ritchie Blackmore', performing on 'Mistreated'.
Catena made his live debut on 30th October at the 'Rockfest80' festival in Italy. His live band numbered guitarists TOMMY DENANDER and Marko Pavic, bass player Aleks Ferrara, Jimmy Bax on Hammond organ and drummer Daniel Flores. A live album was announced for 2005 entitled 'Still Alive and Freakin'...Live Rough in Rome'. In January Catena allied himself with Swedish guitarist KEE MARCELLO for a brace of Italian gigs.
A second solo album, entitled 'Discovery - Return of the Galactic Freakboy', would be readied for 2005 release. The roll call of guests would once again prove impressive, numbering TOTO's BOBBY KIMBALL, STEVIE SALAS, EARL SLICK, BRUCE KULICK of KISS, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD and UNION, drummer CARMINE APPICE, Polish guitarist MICHAEL GAPYS, WHITESNAKE bassist Uriah Duffy, WHITESNAKE and DIO guitarist DOUG ALDRICH, the WHITESNAKE, THIN LIZZY and TED NUGENT credited bassist Marco Mendoza and TONY FRANKLIN.
In mid 2005 Catena unveiled an all new band project dubbed TEENAGE RAMPAGE, a collaboration with the OVERDRIVE, ZELLO, FROM BEHIND and LOCOMOTIVE BREATH credited Janne Stark on guitar, Michael Gapys on second guitar, Marco Fedele on bass and Julius Giuliani on drums. The singer shortly afterward unveiled a further new group endeavour, dubbed PAVIC. Assisting him in this venture would be guitarist Marko Pavic, bassist Aleks Ferrara, Lorenzo Antonelli on keyboards with Daniel Flores of X-SAVIOR and MINDS EYE manning the drums.
In August 2006 Versailles Records released SAMMY HAGAR tribute album 'Three Lock Box - A Millennium Tribute To Sammy Hagar' featuring Catena's rendition of 'I Got The Fire'. Catena contributed guest lead vocal tracks to a cover version of MARCUS's 'Black Magic' for inclusion on OVERDRIVE and LOCOMOTIVE BREATH guitarist Janne Stark's November 2006 MOUNTAIN OF POWER tribute collection.
