DELAIN is a Gothic Metal flavoured act founded in 2002 by former WITHIN TEMPTATION keyboard player Martijn Westerholt. Although fronted by Anne Invernizzi the band also employed guest lead vocals from ORPHANAGE's George Oosthoek for their first demo 'Amenity'. In May 2005 DELAIN's debut album was recorded at Spacelab Studios in Kempen, Germany. Handling drums in the studio would be GOD DETHRONED's Ariën van Weesenbeek.

The album, entitled 'Lucidity', was released in September 2006 through Roadrunner Records and boasted a wealth of high profile guest players including ANCIENT RITES and LACRIMOSA guitarist Jan Yrlund, EPICA's Ad Sluijter, former ORPHANAGE members George Oosterhoek and Guus Eikens and WITHIN TEMPTATION's Sharon Den Adel. NIGHTWISH's Marco Hietala and LIV KRISTINE of LEAVES' EYES duetted on the track 'Day For Ghosts'. Both Kristine and Charlotte Wessels vocalised on 'See Me In Shadow'.

In 2008 drummer Sander Zoer featured with THE COMEBACK, an ambitious conceptual project, involving an album and a graphic novel comic strip based on the character of a rock star in a coma, led by CARDAMON and SOULSTITIA musician Kevin Storm.

The group's 2009 album 'April Rain', entered the German Media Control chart at no. 96. NIGHTWISH bassist/vocalist Marco Hietala sang guest male vocals on two tracks. The album released in North America on 30th June via Sensory Records, adding an extra track 'Come Closer'. The band featured on the bill of the EPICA headlined 'Metal Female Voices Fest VII' on 17th October 2009 at Oktoberhallen in Wieze, Belgium. DELAIN acted as the headliner of the 'Femme Metal' festival, taking place 8th November 2009 at the King's Hall in Herne Bay, Kent, United Kingdom.
