Biography

A Melodic Doom Metal band out of Drammen with a penchant for lengthy songs and high female vocalizing, FUNERAL feature a rhythm section of bassist Einar Fredriksen of MYSTICUM and PARADIGMA repute along with drummer Anders Eek that also plies its trade in THE FLESH, ODIUM and MYRSKOG. The band, initiated by guitarist Christian Loos, dates back to 1991, with first product being the three track demo 'Tristesse' released in 1993. These recordings featured guitarist Thomas Angell, bassist Einar Fredriksen and drummer Anders Eek. A further session, 'Beyond All Sunsets', arrived the following year. That year FUNERAL added vocalist Toril Snyen. Signing to Arctic Serenades, FUNERAL put out the album 'Tragedies' in 1995. A successive set of demos emerged in 1997, featuring singer Sarah Eick, and 1999.

The band signed to the Italian Nocturnal Music label for the March 2002 album 'In Fields of Pestilent Grief'. FUNERAL at this juncture featured a completely overhauled line-up of UNSPOKEN NAMES vocalist Hanne Hukkelberg, Einar Fredriksen on bass, guitarists Christian Loos and 1349 man Idar Burheim ('Archaon'), DISIPLIN and INZEKT keyboard player Kjetil Ottesen and drummer Anders Eek (a.ka. 'Secthdaemon'). Eek also operated the Funeral Doom venture FALLEN in league with FUNERAL colleagues Kjetil Ottersen and Christian Loos. A demo arrived in 2004.

Bassist Einar Fredriksen committed suicide on 10th January 2003.

FUNERAL, now fronted by vocalist Frode Forsmo from Progressive Doomsters MINAS TIRITH, would mark a return in 2005, performing their first concert in over five years at the 'Tinitus' radio launch party at the Olso Betong on 9th September alongside KHOLD and FIREBIRD. Anders Eek joined Torbjørn Sandvik's GLITTERTIND project in February 2006. FUNERAL signed with Tabu Recordings in October. The album 'From These Wounds' was recorded and produced by Kjetil Ottersen at Vektor Studio in Norway.

Further tragedy then hit the band when guitarist Christian Loos was found dead in his flat on Saturday, October 28th. He was 31 years old.

Working with director Marcel Lelienhof FUNERAL filmed a promotional video for the song 'This Barren Skin' in early December. Tabu Recordings issued 'From These Wounds' in Norway on December 4th.
