Biography

A Viking and ancient folklore inspired Metal band, ÁSMEGIN was founded in Jevnaker during late 1998 by the trio of CLAIRVOYANCE vocalist / guitarist Auðrvinr Sigurdsson, Iving Mundilfarne on guitar and willow flute and FORGOTTEN REALMS man Marius Olaussen on guitars and keyboards. Later additions saw two more FORGOTTEN REALMS personnel, drummer Nordalv (Skule Jarl) and bass player Asmodeus (Tomas Torgersbråten), being introduced and bringing the band up to full strength.

Mundilfarne decamped in 1999 prior to ÁSMEGIN recording the EP 'Naar Rimkalkene Heves', released by Valgadar Records. This release found ÁSMEGIN, whilst retaining their roots in Norwegian ethnic music, steering in a distinct Black Metal direction.

Subsequently, ÁSMEGIN recruited ROOSTER drummer Tommy Brandt in place of Jarl but also lost the services of Sigurdsson as frontman. During 2002 Tomas Torgersbråten joined URGEHAL. The band issued 'Hin Vordende Sod & Sø' through Napalm Records in August 2003. Employed on session vocals ("Wood-nymph chants") would be ECHOES OF SANITY and PREDATORIA's Anne Marie Hveding with Anja Hegge Thorsen on Jew's harp, Gunhild Forland on flute, Lars Fredrik Froislie added pianos, mellotrons and samples whilst Oddrun Hegge contributed the Norwegian zither.

Subsequently the band added singer Erik Fossan Rasmussen.
