Oslo based AURA NOIR is the Thrash Metal side project of Black Metal musicians Carl 'Aggressor' Michael Eide from ULVER, CADAVER INC. and VED BUENS ENDE in partnership with DØDHEIMSGARD's 'Apollyon' (Ole Jørgen Moe) and IN SILENCE and MAYHEM's Blasphemer (Rune Eriksen). As 'Aggressor' Carl Michael Eide is also a member of INFERN? having debuted with the 1996 album 'Utter Hell'. The man has also deputized for DIMMU BORGIR's Tjodalv whilst the latter was on paternity leave from his band.

AURA NOIR's inaugural two song demo of 1993, comprising 'A Desert Of Sculptures' and 'The Tower Of Limbs And Fevers', would be recorded solely by Aggressor. Bringing in Apollyon, the duo cut second demo 'Two Voices, One King' in 1994. AURA NOIR debuted with the 1996 offering 'Dreams Like Deserts' issued on the Hot Records imprint of DIMMU BORGIR's Shagrath. Malicious Records then issued 1997's 'Black Thrash Attack'. Vinyl versions hosted an additional track in a cover version of VENOM's 'Heaven's On Fire'. Hammerheart Records followed with 'Deep Tracts Of Hell' in December 1998. This latter effort found Sverre Dæhli contributing guitar. Blasphemer bowed out to re-activate IN SILENCE for a 1999 demo, 'The Suicide Revolution', this featuring contributions from members of DØDHEIMSGARD, DIMMU BORGIR and GEHENNAH.

Eide guested on FLEURETY's 2000 album 'Department Of Apocalyptic Affairs' and has sessioned for WHITE WILLOW. Apollyon also held links with LAMENTED SOULS. AURA NOIR returned with another outing through Hammerheart Records, 'Increased Damnation' in 2000, this set notably featuring DARKTHRONE's Fenriz (Gylve Nagell) as guest vocalist. Blasphemer then made a return and drums for work after this opus were supplied by Dirge Rep (Per Husebø) of ENSLAVED and GEHENNAH.

During April 2002 both Apollyon and Aggressor formed part of the line-up for CADAVER INC.'s North American tour. That same year Apollyon initiated another side venture, working alongside the RED HARVEST pairing of Thomas 'Bølla' Brandt and Bolt Bergsten, to forge traditionalist Thrash outfit WAKLEV?REN.

In 2004 AURA NOIR signed to Tyrant Syndicate Records, a new label started by Nocturno Culto of DARKTHRONE, for the August release 'Merciless'. Both Fenriz of DARKTHRONE and Nattefrost of CARPATHIAN FOREST would guest. That same year the band would have their classic cut 'Blood Unity' chosen as a pioneering piece of music for a compilation assembled by DARKTHRONE drummer Fenriz, released through Peaceville Records and entitled 'Fenriz Presents The Best Of Old School Black Metal'. The song 'Sordid' also found inclusion on a split 7" EP, 'Überthrash', shared with AUDIOPAIN, NOCTURNAL BREED and INFERNO.

AURA NOIR guitarist Aggressor got himself into the news in somewhat bizarre circumstances when he plummeted from a five-story building in Oslo on 26th March 2005. Severely injured, the musician underwent two major operations immediately after the event. A year later Eide would still be wheelchair bound.

April 2006 brought news that Apollyon had participated in SECHT, a Black Metal collective boasting an impressive cast involving CARPATHIAN FOREST personnel Vrangsinn, Nattefrost and Nordavind, drummer Dirge Rep of GORGOROTH and NEETZACH, Nag of TSJUDER, Gaahl from GORGOROTH and TRELLDOM, Nocturno Culto of DARKTHRONE plus Høst from RAGNAROK and TAAKE amongst others.
