AVA INFERI is a Almada, Portugal based Black Metal band whose line-up includes guitarist Rune Eriksen (a.k.a. ex-MAYHEM guitarist/songwriter Blasphemer). Eriksen initiated the project in order to " release and channel all frustration and misery that life sometimes brings upon us, but also, and perhaps more importantly, to give birth to an entity that could be used freely and independently. A portal to the never-ending well of expression and creativity..." He would be joined in this endeavour by singer Carmen Simões, of ISIPHILON and POETRY OF SHADOWS, guitarist Nuno Roberto, bassist Jaime S. Ferreira and drummer João Samora. This unit debuted in 2006 with 'Burdens'.

The 2007 album 'The Silhouette' was promoted by a video for the track 'A Dança Das Ondas' directed by Rui Veiga.

Following Scandinavian headline dates in October 2008 the group entered the studio in November to begin recording its third album, 'Blood Of Bacchus', for a 2009 release. ULVER mainman Kristoffer Rygg guested in the studio, as did Live Kostöl, of PANTHEON I, Fredrik Söderlind, from PUISSENCE, and pianist Arne Martinussen.

2009 was opened with the 'Hellhounds Fest' European tour, also featuring NOVEMBRE, SCREAM SILENCE, TIAMAT and THE 69 EYES. In March AVA INFERI announced "We are now searching for a piano/keyboard player to fullfill and broaden our soundscape, both live and on record". The group released its third album, 'Blood Of Bacchus', on 25th May via via France's Season Of Mist.
