Biography
Moscow Death Metal act formed in November 1993. The original MENTAL HOME line-up comprised of the two Dmitriev siblings, vocalist / guitarist Sergey and drummer and keyboard player Igor. Also involved was lead guitarist Roman Povarov and bass player Denis Samusev. Taking an atmospheric Doomladen Death Metal approach the quartet released their inaugural demo session 'Funeral Service' in January of 1994.
Shortly after, the MENTAL HOME returned to the studio and in July of the same year 'Mirrorland' was issued by the domestic Metal Agen concern, soon selling out of its initial 5'000 run.
A setback occurred when Povarov injured his hand in an accident. The guitarist shifted over to keyboards to accommodate his disability and MENTAL HOME drafted Sergey Kalachov for the 'Vale' outing. This album would see a release through Morbid Noizz. Quite spectacularly the album actually sold out after a few months and hit the number one position in the Russian Metal charts.
Despite this upward turn in the bands fortunes Povarov departed. Michael 'Maiden' Smirnoff took not only the vacant keyboard position but also became MENTAL HOME's business manager.
In March of 1997 the band retired to the studio completing the 'Black Art' album by June. With MENTAL HOME's profile riding high the first brace of albums were also reissued.
The bands progress had not gone unnoticed outside of Russia and American based The End Records engineered a deal with the band to release 'Vale' and 'Black Art'.
