LAST TRIBE was the melodic Metal band project guitarist Magnus Karlsson was working on before he was inducted into the ranks of MIDNIGHT SUN for their 'Nemesis' album. Finding a hole in MIDNIGHT SUN's schedule, Karlsson finally issued the debut LAST TRIBE album 'The Ritual' in 2001, these sessions involving guitarist Lee Day and the SHADOW NATION rhythm section of bass player Pär Wallmark and Kristoffer Andersson. 'The Ritual', released through the Italian Frontiers label, was produced by Anders Theander.

The band would return in 2002 with the 'Witch Dance' album seeing Bengtsson and Karlsson utilising a fresh rhythm section comprising bassist Dick Lövgren and drummer Jaime Salazar, the latter from renowned Progressive Rock act THE FLOWER KINGS plus affiliations with a diverse range of acts such as KARMANIAK, BAD HABIT, OPUS ATLANTICA, TIMELESS MIRACLE as well as MIDNIGHT SUN. Lövgren's scene credentials ranged across ARCH ENEMY, ARMAGEDDON, CROMLECH, EUCHARIST, IN FLAMES, MESHUGGAH, MAJESTIC and TIME REQUIEM. This line-up remained intact for the December 2003 offering 'The Uncrowned'.

As 2005 broke Magnus Karlsson announced the formation of a new band unit, STARBREAKER's very heavy musical direction being illustrated by its choice of title taken after the classic JUDAS PRIEST song. The guitarist's comrades in arms for this venture would be TNT, WESTWORLD and MORNING WOOD vocalist Tony Harnell, Italian bassist Fabrizio Grossi and the ARK, ARTENSION, RIOT and TNT credited John Macaluso on drums.

Working with vocalist / keyboard player Mike Andersson of CLOUDSCAPE, Magnus Karlsson initiated an all star project dubbed PLANET ALLIANCE for a 2006 album.
