Skövde based Death Metal merchants SOLAR DAWN first saw assembly by the guitar pairing of Andreas Månsson and Anders Edlund of VORHEES as JARAWYNJA during 1997. Utilising Christian Älvestam of UNMOORED as session vocalist and Marcus Engström on the drums the formative band cut the opening Black-Thrash demo 'The Festival Of Fools' in 1998.

This quartet, albeit now leaning more toward melodic Death Metal territory and enlisting Linus Abrahamsson on bass, remained in force to lay down a further session in 2000 dubbed 'Desideratum'. The Danish Mighty Music label took these recordings for release as an EP in February of 2001, re-titled 'Frost-Work', their first product under the SOLAR DAWN banner.

SOLAR DAWN's next target was a full blown album, which necessitated the recruitment of a drummer. Jocke Pettersson, an established veteran of such artists as DAWN, CRANIUM, THY PRIMORDIAL, UNMOORED, REGURGITATE, NIDEN DIVISION 187 and MAZE OF TORMENT, stepped in to fulfil duties for the Tommy Tägtgren produced album 'Equinoctium'. Upon completion of the record SOLAR DAWN enrolled Henrik Schönström, holding both TRAUMATIZED and UNMOORED credits, as their new drummer.

Månsson made his exit in 2002, the same year SOLAR DAWN inducted Robert Karlsson of FACEBREAKER, EDGE OF SANITY and PAN.THY.MONIUM repute on bass guitar.

Besides his duties with SOLAR DAWN frontman Christian Älvestam has an extended roll call of band endeavours such as CARNALIZED, ANDUIN '98, EVENDIM, LORD OF THRONES, ORGY OF FLESH, SATTYG, RED SKIES DAWNING, THE STINK BUG COLLECTIVE and DEN TIDLÖSA EVIGHETEN. During 2003 Christian Älvestam and Henrik Schönström featured in the Death / Thrash Metal project TORCHBEARER. The following year Christian Älvestam would be found fronting Jonas Kjellgren's SCAR SYMMETRY band for their 'Symmetric In Design' debut.

SOLAR DAWN folded in February 2005 with an announcement stating "Ladies and gentlemen, we have decided to bury SOLAR DAWN once and for all!", adding "without genuine commitment, there's really no point in continuing." Christian Älvestam donated guest vocals to ZONARIA's 2006 debut album 'Rendered In Vain', featuring on the track 'Attending Annihilation'.

During late 2007 Christian Älvestam announced the Swedish/Finnish Progressive Metal "supergroup" SOLUTION.45, featuring in its ranks keyboard player Mikko Härkin, ex-SONATA ARCTICA and KOTIPELTO, second guitarist Jani Stefanovic, from MISERATION and ESSENCE OF SORROW, guitarist Tom Gardiner, of SCORCHED EARTH TACTICS and HATEFORM, bassist Anders Edlund from ANGEL BLAKE and drummer 'Stuka' (a.k.a. Rolf Pilve), of ESSENCE OF SORROW, MISERATION and DREAMTALE.
