Blues based Stockholm Doomsters unit fronted by former SUPERMOUTH and CARDINAL FANG vocalist Janne Christoffersson. Bassist Foxy is another CARDINAL FANG veteran. The act has its roots in SMACK, the need for a new drummer with the departure of former incumbent Iggy prompting a change in direction and name change to GRAND MAGUS during 1999. The band would locate their new sticksman, erstwhile MORNING WOOD man Trisse (a.k.a. Fredrik Liefvendahl), at an anniversary screening of DEEP PURPLE's 'California Jam' film.

A three track demo led on to a split 7" vinyl single with SPIRITUAL BEGGARS entitled 'Twilight Train' for the Southern Lord label. 1000 copies were pressed on regular black vinyl with 100 in transparent and 100 on green.

GRAND MAGUS signed with Lee Dorrian's Rise Above imprint. The debut eponymous album, released in November 2001, was produced by Fred Estby of DISMEMBER. Janne Christoffersson would later join SPIRITUAL BEGGARS.

Promoting the October 2003 released 'Monument' album throughout July of 2004 GRAND MAGUS united with ORANGE GOBLIN, ROADSAW and fellow Swedes WITCHCRAFT for European dates. The band returned in June 2005 with the 'Wolf's Return' opus. Japanese variants on the JVC Victor label added a version of 'Brotherhood Of Sleep' recorded live at the 'Sweden Rock' festival. European touring scheduled October was to witness a grand Doom union hook up with CANDLEMASS and CATHEDRAL. However, these dates fell through. The band did, however, support CATHEDRAL for a one off 14th September gig at London's Camden Underworld.

GRAND MAGUS closed an eight year tenure with drummer Fredrik Liefvendahl in March 2006. sebastian would be drafted as replacement. In August Rise Above Records re-issued the debut album, adding two extra tracks 'JB' and 'Oneman'. Bassist Foxy was also involved with the Team Hamarby IF supporting "Klack Metal" band BAJEN DEATH CULT.

Janne Christoffersson joined CANDLEMASS onstage for their 20th anniversary concert at Stockholm's Kolingsborg on March 31st, performing the song 'Well Of Souls'. GRAND MAGUS supported FIREWIND on UK dates in April 2007.

Rise Above Records issued the 'Iron Will' album in June 2008. Swedish shows in September saw GRAND MAGUS guesting for AT THE GATES and supported by TYRANT with a run of German concerts lined up for November.

GRAND MAGUS played the SAXON, UFO, MOTÖRHEAD and HEAVEN AND HELL headlined August 2009 'Wacken Open Air' festival in Germany. The group also co-headlined, alongside ACID KING, the tenth installment of the 'Sauzipf Rocks' festival that same month in Döbriach, Kärnten, Austria.
