Färgelanda Teen Satanists NIFELHEIM, centred on twins bassist Tyrant Bestial Holocaust (a.k.a. Erik Gustavsson) and vocalist Hellbutcher Deathvomit (Pelle Gustavsson), came together in 1990, issuing the demo 'Unholy Death' in early 1993. Shortly after guitarist Morbid Slaughter departed. Drummer Demon Pounding Devestator is in fact Martin Axenrot, a scene veteran of SATANIC SLAUGHTER, BLASPHEMOUS, COVEN, BLOODBATH, WITCHERY, MORGUE and TRIUMPHATOR.

The debut 1995 album features guest guitar contributions from DISSECTION's Jon Nödveidt and ex-DISSECTION guitarist Jon Zwetsloot. The following year found NIFELHEIM fronted by singer Per 'Goat' Alexandersson, a latter day member of Nödveidt's SATANIZED. During 2000 bassist Tyrant Bestial Holocaust and Hellbutcher joined PAGAN RITES for live shows. By 2003 the Axenrot was in the employ of N.C.O. ('Nephenzy Chaos Order'), featuring on their album 'Pure Black Disease'.

Tyrant Bestial Holocaust would step in as substitute bassist for trad Heavy Metal band RAM's March 2004 show in Halmstad, Sweden. That same year NIFELHEIM's guitarist Mika 'Sadist' Leppänen forged side project SERPENT LIGHT, a Black styled Power Metal act forged in union with American Metal vocalist Sheena Khan.

In August 2005 Martin Axenrot temporarily joined the ranks of OPETH for European touring, covering for regular drummer Martin López who was forced out due to medical concerns. In January of 2006 NIFELHEIM announced a split 7" single, to be titled 'Thunder Metal', to be shared with Brazil's VULCANO on Sweden's I Hate Records. That May Peter Stjärnvind left ENTOMBED to prioritise his role in NIFELHEIM.

Former NIFELHEIM member Jon Nödtveidt closed his career in a manner befitting his philosophies, committing suicide in August. DISSECTION band members released a statement claiming "he was more focussed, happier and stronger than ever" and "he chose to end his life by his own hands. As a true Satanist he led his life in the way he wanted and ended it when he felt that he had fulfilled his self-created destiny".

Nödtveidt, 31 years old, was found dead at his apartment in Hässelby, a suburb of Stockholm, on August 16th. Newspapers reported he had surrounded himself by candles and had a copy of Anton La Vey's 'The Satanic Bible'. Nödtveidt had ended his life with a shot to the head. Shortly beforehand he had told friends he was "going to Transylvania".
