Biography
Following the demise of DEEP PURPLE in 1976 keyboard player JON LORD and drummer Ian Paice soon reunited in another working band. Originally DEEP PURPLE vocalist DAVID COVERDALE was approached, but the singer declined, allowing Lord's old friend TONY ASHTON to assume the role. Ashton had of course made his name known with the keyboard player in the ASHTON/LORD project, appeared on JON LORD's solo albums 'Gemini Suite' and 'Windows', two solo efforts by WHO bassist JOHN ENTWISTLE then four albums by ASHTON, GARDNER, DYKE and also BROKEN GLASS in 1975.
Guitars on the album were handled by ex BABE RUTH and UFO guitarist BERNIE MARSDEN along with ex-HACKENSACK and STRETCH bassist Paul Martinez. The resulting record was a strong offering, but internal affairs soon split the band. Martinez later turned up in CHICKENSHACK in 1977 then ROBERT PLANT's band. Paice, Lord and Marsden all teamed up with WHITESNAKE. Ashton joined CHICKENSHACK.
In 2005 T2 Media issued a PAICE, ASHTON, LORD DVD filmed at a 1977 'Sight & Sound In Concert' event. The DVD also included the 'Lifespan' documentary along with auditions, rehearsals, back-stage footage and live footage from UK dates.
