Biography
Hailing from the industrial town of Corby in Northamptonshire, RAGING SPEEDHORN was assembled during August of 1998, comprising a pooling of talents from two antecedent acts in SOULCELLER, guitarist Frank Regan, bassist Darren Smith and Gareth Smith, and BOX, singer John Loughlin, drummer Gordon Morrison and guitarist Tony Loughlin. Before the year was out the new formation, working with producer Roddy Stone, had cut their first, four track demo.
RAGING SPEEDHORN toured the UK in October 1999 partnered with ENMITY and BREAKNECK. The band allied with TRIBUTE TO NOTHING and CHARGER for the 'Metal Hammer' magazine sponsored UK tour of March 2000. The band was scheduled to support FEAR FACTORY on their 2003 Autumn European dates but withdrew citing the birth of guitarist Frank Regan's first child as the reason. The band's re-scheduled UK dates, with packaged CLUTCH and CANDIRA, were announced as commencing at the Glasgow Garage on the 24th January. RAGING SPEEDHORN gained the valuable high profile support to RAMMSTEIN for their May 2002 UK dates. The band returned to British shores in September, putting in a run of headline shows with opening acts THE 80S MATCHBOX B-LINE DISASTER and TERRASHIMA. Progressing into mainland Europe the band hooked up with ILL NIÑO and PITCHSHIFTER for a further two week co-headlining run.
In late October RAGING SPEEDHORN issued the 'Fuck The Voodooman' single, extra tracks included on the limited edition release being interpretations of BLACK FLAG's 'My War' and URIAH HEEP's 'Gypsy'. Darren Smith and Gordon Morrison also made time to activate the trad Heavy Metal band VIKING SKULL.
Ex-DEFENESTRATION guitarist Jaye Thompson replaced Loughlin in January of 2004. A retrospective double album set for Spring of 2004 was to compile archive live tracks from The Garage in London in 2000 and the 2001 Ozzfest performance along with demo recordings. Meantime guitarist Gareth Smith, having relocated himself to Stockholm in Sweden, emerged with a brace of extreme Metal side projects in 2004, JUSTADELF VERSUS GROSS ALATISCH in league with CULT OF LUNA musicians guitarist Erik Olsson and drummer Marco Hildén, and Black Metal band DRÄP DE KRISTNA ("Slay The Christians") with members of SWITCHBLADE and VINTERKRIG.
RAGING SPEEDHORN live dates in the UK would be pulled due to recording commitments. Meantime, Grand Recordings issued the 'Live And Demos' archive set in March. RAGING SPEEDHORN returned in early 2005 with the new album 'How The Great Have Fallen', recorded at London's 2KHZ Studios with producer Joe Barresi and their first recording since adding ex-DEFENESTRATION guitarist Jaye Thompson. Extra tracks recorded during these sessions included a cover of the KISS classic 'God Of Thunder'. On the eve of UK dates singer Frank Regan exited, his position being filled temporarily by former HARD TO SWALLOW, IRON MONKEY, HELVIS, 666 DEAD and DEAD INSIDE vocalist Bloody Kev.
Live work breaking into 2006 saw the band teaming up with HYPOCRISY, SOILENT GREEN, NILE, DECAPITATED and WITH PASSION for a North American tour commencing in early January. The band donated their rendition '30$ Bag' of to raise funds for the EYEHATEGOD musicians on the Emetic Records assembled benefit CD 'For The Sick - A Tribute To Eyehategod'.
The band utilised Foel Studio in North Wales to cut new album tracks throughout April 2007. Throughout May RAGING SPEEDHORN undertook European headline shows backed by Ohio's TWELVE TRIBES and Hungarian act BRIDGE TO SOLACE.
