PRETTY BOY FLOYD was one of the very last of the 80s 'Hair bands' to make an impression on the lives of European Rock fans as the new decade dawned, the group even being featured on the cover of the December 16, 1989 issue of 'Kerrang!' The self-styled 'Dirty Glam' PRETTY BOY FLOYD had arrived towards the end of the 80s with a promising demo, a flamboyant stage show and tons of make-up. The act's original 1987 line-up comprised vocalist Steve Summers, guitarist Aeriel Stiles, bassist Vinnie Chas and drummer Kari Kane (Cameron Purdy).

Stiles, previously of DOLL alongside a pre-SALTY DOG Mike Hannon, had forged the band with Summers, the pair meeting up via an advert in Music Connection magazine. Early PRETTY BOY FLOYD tracks 'Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz', 'Wild Angels', '48 Hours', and 'The Last Kiss' were composed by Stiles whilst a member of DOLL. Together with Summers fresh tracks 'Only The Young Understand', 'Rock 'N' Roll Outlaws' and 'Your Mama Won't Know'. The title PRETTY BOY FLOYD was suggested by producer and mentor Kim Fowley.

Prior to the formation of the group, guitarist KRISTY KRASH MAJORS (Chris Maggiore) replacing Stiles in 1988, had played in the New York Glam Thrash troupe JETT BLAKK and formatively SIK BITCH before relocating to Los Angeles to audition. Aeriel Stiles and Vinnie Chas departed to create RATTLIN' BONES in union with drummer Jeff Alpine and HOLY SOLDIER singer Robert Wolf. Having generated a buzz in Los Angeles, opening for the likes of KEEL and SMASHED GLADYS, it was only a matter of time before a major label snapped them up. MCA Records was that company, courtesy of A&R man Brett Hartman. MCA first tested the waters with a three track demo.

The band's debut album for MCA was produced by the then in demand Howard Benson. Titled 'Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz', the opus was recorded in Philadelphia and heavily endeared musically by early MÖTLEY CRÜE. So brazen were PRETTY BOY FLOYD of their influence the band covered MÖTLEY CRÜE's 'Toast Of The Town' on the B-side to the 'Rock n' Roll (Is Gonna Set The Night On Fire)' single. The album only reached no. 130 on the national Billboard charts despite promotional videos filmed for the tracks 'Rock And Roll (Is Gonna Set The Night On Fire)' and 'I Wanna Be With You'.

The group was subsequently embroiled in a row over the copyright to the name after objections from the Canadian PRETTY BOY FLOYD who had actually released their album first. Somehow, the American mob won the day and the Canucks switched to the TOMMI FLOYD moniker.

Rumours were rife of a British tour in early 1990, but any plans the quartet may have had fell by the wayside as MCA allegedly backed out of financing the group's visit. The band claimed that a support slot to THE QUIREBOYS was cancelled as the group would be left no time to shoot a video for 'I Wanna Be With You'. A previously planned British tour with WHITE LION was pulled after the headliners were forced to cancel the shows due to vocalist Mike Tramp's recent operation to remove his tonsils.

PRETTY BOY FLOYD appeared on two soundtracks, the demo version of '48 Hours' being included on 'Karate Kid III' and the previously unreleased 'Slam Dunk' turning up a couple of years later on the soundtrack to the Ellen Barkin movie 'Switch'. Aeriel Stiles rejoined the fold in January 1991, staying the course until PRETTY BOY FLOYD's demise in early 1994.

Kristy Majors formed a band with ex-TOMMI GUN and ALICE COOPER drummer Anthony Focx but this was short-lived, Focx forming JONES STREET and by 2000 was in HELLSTAR (the act that later became BEAUTIFUL CREATURES). In 1995 Aeriel Stiles formed STRATOSPHERE, recording the album 'Time'.

The band reformed in late 1995 and began writing new material together, said to be in very much the same vein as the 'Leather Boyz...' album. Featured in the ranks was guitarist Keri Kelli previously with EMPIRE and fellow Glamsters BIG BANG BABIES. Both Kelli and Kane participated in a one off BIG BANG BABIES reunion in 1998. PRETTY BOY FLYD issued a five track EP in 1998 entitled 'A Tale Of Sex, Designer Drugs, And The Death of Rock n' Roll' through Perris Records, this set featuring a cover version of the BIG BANG BABIES track 'Everybody Needs A Hero'.

It was to be 1999 however before the band came out of the shadows fully touring North America on a package billing with BULLETBOYS and BANG TANGO and issuing the 'Porn Stars' album on Cleopatra Records, a collection of new material, re-recordings and covers of ALICE COOPER's 'Dept. Of Youth' plus the inevitable KISS tribute 'Shout It Out Loud'.

Kelli would decamp in June 1999 working on projects such as SODA and SUPERFILIACS. Kelli would later join DADS PORNO MAG, RATT, WARRANT and SLASH'S SNAKEPIT. New bass guitarist was Lesli Sanders of QUEENY BLAST POP.

2000 found Summers a member of SHAMELESS with TUFF vocalist STEVIE RACHELLE and KISS and UNION guitarist Bruce Kulick. With Majors place being taken by Kelli, PRETTY BOY FLOYD put in a series of Japanese shows during 2001. The December live album 'Live At The Pretty Ugly Club', recorded at FASTER PUSSYCAT singer Taime Downe's club in Hollywood, was augmented with two new studio tracks 'Don't Save Your Love' and 'It's Still Rock n' Roll To Me'.

Original member KRISTY KRASH MAJORS left the band during March of 2002, subsequently releasing a solo album 'Goodbye Rock And Roller. Former PRETTY BOY FLOYD bassist Keff Ratcliffe would join L.A. GUNS as rhythm guitarist in June. The 'Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz' album, complete with five bonus tracks, saw a re-release in mid 2003 courtesy of Perris Records. A new album, 'Size Really Does Matter' co-produced by Lesli Sanders and Brian Haught and recorded at Synical Teknologies in Hollywood, also saw issue via Deadline Records.

Throughout June and July 2003 the band allied themselves with ENUFF Z' NUFF and FASTER PUSSYCAT for the debut 'Metal Sludge' tour of North America. That same year the band issued the album 'Tonight Belongs To The Young', this apparently being a collection of songs intended for a proposed second MCA record.

PRETTY BOY FLOYD announced a reformation in October of 2004, with original lead singer Steve Sex Summers on vocals, along with PEPPERMINT CREEPS members Eddie Electra on bass, Macy Malone on guitar and Traci Michaelz on drums. Ex-members Lesli Sanders and Chad duly forged PROPHETS OF ADDICTION.

PRETTY BOY FLOYD scheduled UK dates ranked alongside BANG TANGO and ENUFF Z' NUFF for April 2005. US gigs scheduled with FASTER PUSSYCAT would be jeopardised when Electra, Malone and Michaelz exited en masse and ignited a bitter war of words. PRETTY BOY FLOYD toured Japan during December 2005. For these gigs Summers employed the FASTBACK duo of guitarist Michael Thomas and bass player Jamie Keane. Manning the drums would be Todd Michael 'T' Burr, a scene veteran of outfits NINJA, ROCKNEE, SUBSTANCE D, TUFF, THE DRUTS, FREEDOM UNDER X-RAY, AGROKULCHER, FASTBACK and, as 'Lars McBrain', tribute band MÖTLEY PRIEST.

The band announced they were to team up with STEPHEN PEARCY and BANG TANGO for the 'Metal In America Tour 2006' beginning in early February. The group pulled in original members guitarist Kristy Majors and drummer Kari Kane for these gigs. A 20th anniversary album was announced in April 2007, set to feature Steve Summers, Aerial Stiles and Vinnie Chaz. However, Summers still toured across Europe throughout April and May alongside TUFF and SHAMELESS with a different line-up including guitarist Macy Malone, bass player JK Famous and drummer Tracy Michaels.

European concerts were held in September 2008 packaged with FATAL SMILE, BRITNY FOX and BULLETBOYS. However, in early November the band broke up once again. Steve Summers promptly reformed the band. Within days it was announced a "new and improved" PRETTY BOY FLOYD line-up was available for gigs comprising vocalist / guitarist Kristy Majors, guitarist Ryan Seelbach, bassist JK Famous and drummer Kari Kane. The saga continued as on 8th November Kari Kane he was not performing with either version of PRETTY BOY FLOYD.

PRETTY BOY FLOYD announced addition of WHITE LION drummer Troy Patrick Farrell and bassist Criss Sixx of the MÖTLEY CRÜE tribute band TRÜE 2 CRÜE to their line-up in January 2009. However, manning the drums for their 4th January show at the House of Blues in Hollwood was former TUFF and SUBSTANCE D D man Tod Michael Burr.
