Biography
Santa Cruz, California Death Metal band forged during 2001, at first involving vocalist Bill Robinson, guitarists Mike Turner and Matt Sotelo plus bass player Derek Boyer. DECREPIT BIRTH's full length debut, '...And Time Begins' recorded at Legion Studios, was released in April 2002 through Unique Leader Records. Manning the drums would be Tim Yeung, a scene veteran of COUNCIL OF THE FALLEN, WINDBREED, SHAITHUS, AGIEL, HATE ETERNAL, AURORA BOREALIS, NEVERS END, DIABOLIC, VITAL REMAINS and ALL THAT REMAINS. These sessions had been co-produced by Damian Cisneros at Legion studios. In July that same year Unique Leader issued the single 'Prelude To The Apocalypse'.
Bassist Derek Boyer vacated, joining the reformed SUFFOCATION in April 2004 and DECREPIT BIRTH duly drafted new drummer KC Howard of ODIOUS MORTEM repute in September. The band announced a road union with PSYCROPTIC and VILE for the 'Bloodletting North America' Summer 2005 tour. The band partnered with DEEDS OF FLESH, VILE and ODIOUS MORTEM on the 'Bloodletting North America V' tour of the USA in July 2006.
DECREPT BIRTH members bassist Risha Eryavec and drummer Tim Yeung forged a new band project in mid 2006 allied with Tommy Vext of VEXT on lead vocals and former FEAR FACTORY man Dino Cazares on guitar. DECREPIT BIRTH got back to live work, pulling in the VILE, BLOOD RED THRONE, APOSTASY, UNSPOKEN NAMES, MR. CUCUMBER, DISMAL EUPHONY and THE ALL SEEING I credited Erlend Caspersen as stand in bassist. In October the band announced a fresh album billed 'Diminishing Between Worlds' for Unique Leader Records. The following month Risha Eryavec returned in the bass position.
Unfortunately the group found itself embroiled in controversy when Mike Turner was arrested on charges of child molestation and sexual battery, being acussed of having recorded himself on video inappropriately touching at least two children and sexually touching an unconscious adult. According to authorities, Turner was also found to have hidden a camera in his bathroom, violating the privacy of several people. DECREPIT BIRTH swiftly ejected Turner from the band in November 2006, with founder Matt Sotelo going on record to hope that his erstwhile colleague "rots in prison forever."
Ex band member Tim Yeung deputised as stand in drummer for Western Massachusetts Metal outfit ALL THAT REMAINS North American dates throughout November and December 2006.
DECREPIT BIRTH as a trio of Robinsobn, Sotelo and Howard entered Castle Ultimate studios on May 8th 2007, working with producer Zack Ohren, to begin recording their second album, 'Diminishing Between Worlds'. The group's numbers were subsequently boosted with the induction of ODIOUS MORTEM personnel Dan Eggers on guitar and Joel Horner on bass.
The 'Summer Slaughter' US festival tour commencing in June 2009 witnessed a package comprising co-headliners NECROPHAGIST and SUFFOCATION backed by ENSIFERUM, DARKEST HOUR, WINDS OF PLAGUE, DYING FETUS, BORN OF OSIRIS, ORIGIN, BENEATH THE MASSACRE, AFTER THE BURIAL, DECREPIT BIRTH and BLACKGUARD.
