Biography

Highly respected guitar player George Lynch, most recognised for his platinum term of duty with DOKKEN between 1980 and March 1989, was born in Spokane, Washington and subsequently raised in Auburn, California. Besides his profile with DOKKEN, Lynch is known for having twice coming close to securing a position with OZZY OSBOURNE. In 1979 his then manager did not pass on the contact and in 1982 he actually secured the place but then lost out the very same day to Jake E. Lee.

With DOKKEN Lynch featured prominently with inventive riffing a solo work on million selling albums such as 'Under Lock And Key' and 'Back For The Attack'. Lynch earned a grammy nomination for his 'Mr. Scary' track as the "best rock instrumental" in 1989.

George Lynch recorded a pure solo affair after the break up of his post DOKKEN outfit, the ever fluid LYNCH MOB. Vocals came coutesy of BADLANDS and BLACK SABBATH man RAY GILLEN, Matthew and Gunnar Nelson of NELSON, WWIII's Mandy Lion and ex-DEEP PURPLE star GLENN HUGHES. Erstwhile WARLOCK man Tommy Hendrickson supplied bass and the esteemed Denny Fongheiser drums.

Post 'Sacred Groove' Lynch put together a proposed band with L.A. GUNS drummer Steven Riley and erstwhile LIFE, SEX & DEATH bassist Bill E. Garr but then got the call to rejoin DOKKEN. The newly shorn guitarist came back on the scene with a Rap Metal inspired LYNCH MOB but during late 2001 would announce a band project in league with erstwhile DOKKEN bassist JEFF PILSON. After requesting suggestions for a band title from fans, the duo eventually settled on the succinct handle of LYNCH / PILSON.

In mid 2002 Lynch revealed details of a new solo album comprising reworks of tracks from his career to date. Featured were set to be remakes of DOKKEN and LYNCH MOB songs with DOKKEN and L/P bassist Jeff Pilson vocalising on the DOKKEN songs whilst Robert Mason handled the LYNCH MOB material. Anthony Esposito took on bass and LYNCH / PILSON drummer Mike 'Fro' Frowen also involved.

The guitarist, alongside singers Tony Harnell of TNT and Jason McMaster of DANGEROUS TOYS, contributed to a take on 'Shy Boy' to the Versailles Records VAN HALEN tribute 'Best of Both Worlds' in 2003. Late that same year Lynch took a solo band out onto the road comprising bassist Marten Andersson and drummer Mike Frowen.

The guitarist made a return to live action in March of 2004, assembling a new solo band to tour as support to YNGWIE MALMSTEEN. Lynch's comrades for this trek comprised the BATON ROUGE, MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP and JOHN NORUM credited singer Kelly Keeling and drummer Jeff Martin, known as percussionist for UFO, MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP and BADLANDS as well as being vocalist for RACER X. On bass would be LIZZY BORDEN and LEGACY's Marten Andersson.

The guitarist would also enter the studio with Keeling to record an album of classic Rock cover songs billed as 'Furious George'. Amongst the tracks included, apparently chosen because they directly influenced Lynch in his formative years, would be 'Blood Of The Sun by MOUNTAIN, 'Precious And Grace' from ZZ TOP, 'Bridge Of Sighs by ROBIN TROWER, MONTROSE's classic 'Space Station #5', CAPTAIN BEYOND's 'Dancing Madly Backwards', DEEP PURPLE's 'StormBringer', JEFF BECK's 'Superstitious', JIMI HENDRIX's 'All Along the Watchtower' and 'She's So Heavy' by THE BEATLES.

A retrospective release, entitled 'Lost Lynch', would collect together archive material from EXCITER, DOKKEN, LYNCH MOB and STONEHOUSE. October Us dates found Lynch assembling an all new band unit comprising CHRIS CAFFERY band, BLOCKK 16 and THIRTY STONES guitarist Rob Freeman, Rob DeLuca of SPREAD EAGLE, JOAN JETT and OURS on bass with Ronen Barak from BLOCKK 16 on the drums. Solo dates during early 2005 saw a touring partnership with STARWOOD, bassist Marten Andersson sharing duties with both bands. US live work for the Summer would see Lynch partnering up with another guitar hero, the WHITESNAKE and THIN LIZZY credited JOHN SYKES. His live band for these gigs saw a return for Kelly Keeling and Rob DeLuca with Mike Frowin manning the drums. However, midway through these dates Andrew Freeman of THIRTY STONES, BLACK SYMPHONY and BLOCKK 16 replaced Keeling.

In mid September Lynch revealed he was in discussions with two Rock veterans, VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony and the BLACK OAK ARKANSAS, WHITESNAKE and OZZY OSBOURNE credited drummer Tommy Aldridge, in regards to forming up a new band unit. Gigs in December saw the BLACK SABBATH and DIO credited Vinnie Appice on drums.

Fans of previous eras would be satisfied too though as GEORGE LYNCH's 'Anthology' collection through Cleopatra included six archive DOKKEN cuts in 'Going Under', 'Cry Again', live versions of 'In The Middle', 'Lost Behind The Wall' and 'Turn On The Action' plus an unreleased 'Shadowlife' cut 'When The Good Die Young'. In 2005 Lynch contributed his interpretation of 'In My Ways' to a FRANK MARINO tribute album though WildMess Records entitled 'Secondhand Smoke'.

The guitar player featured on the VAN HALEN song 'Panama' included on the tribute album '80s Metal Tribute To Van Halen' released by Deadline Records in September 2006.

A foursome known as SOULS OF WE, although revealed to the world in early 2008, had in fact been in the planning stages for some four years prior to that date. The unit was led by George Lynch and frontman London Legrand, previously singer with BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION. Rounding out the 2008 line-up would be female drummer Yael, having credits with TOM MORELLO and ALEX SKOLNICK TRIO, plus bassist Johny Chow, of SYSTEMATIC and FIREBALL MINISTRY.

The debut SOULS OF WE effort, 'Let The Truth Be Known', had been started in 2004 but put on hold when Legrand enrolled into the ranks of BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION, the band featuring Nikki Sixx of MÖTLEY CRÜE and Tracii Guns from L.A. GUNS. After the BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION split, Legrand and Lynch rekindled their partnership and finished work on the record. 'Let The Truth Be Known' was self-produced in various studios around Los Angeles and mixed by the esteemed Mudrock. Guesting musicians included drummer Morgan Rose of SEVENDUST and bassist Fred Leclercq of DRAGONFORCE

In June 2008 Lynch issued the three track instrumental EP 'Hang 'Em High' as a mail order product. That December LYNCH MOB put in Australian dates on a co-headline bill with FASTER PUSSYCAT, performing in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane with a band involving singer Oni Logan, bassist Marco Mendoza and drummer Scott Coogan.
