Biography

Revered outfit EYEHATEGOD are one of the very few artists who can lay genuine claim to originating a in this case New Orleans Hardcore edged Sludge. The band, founded in Harvey, Louisiana, has trod a turbulent career, apparently on the edge of disintegration on numerous occasions. EYEHATEGOD was formed in 1988 by ex-CROWBAR drummer Jimmy Bower taking up guitar to create EYEHATEGOD. Both Bower and CROWBAR frontman Kirk Windstein had been members of covers act THE SLUGS. The band made an immediate impact with a relentless touring schedule and shows that saw EYEHATEGOD delivering a quite unique brand of de-tuned violent Metal. Over the year's the group, despite an ever fluxing line up, has gained respect for a no compromise approach to their art backed up with over a dozen nationwide tours of America as well as forays into both Europe and Asia.

EYEHATEGOD's line-up for the 1992 'In The Name Of Suffering' album was vocalist Mike Williams, guitarists Jim Bower and Marc Schultz, bassist Steve Dale and drummer Joey LaCaze. Bower kept himself occupied outside of EYEHATEGOD with numerous projects the most well known being DOWN with Windstein, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY's Pepper Keenan and PANTERA's Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown. Bower also occupies the drumstool with SUPERJOINT RITUAL, again with Anselmo, ex-CROWBAR guitarist Kevin Bond and former STRESSBALL drummer Joe Fazzio. Bower has yet another band CLEARLIGHT. Brian Patton divides his duties between EYEHATEGOD and SOILENT GREEN.

During 1997 the band enrolled former MALIGNANT MINDS and SUPLECS bassist Danny Nick, this latest recruit's tenure lasting until 2000 when he rejoined the SUPLECS. 2000's 'Southern Discomfort' album is a collection of early demos. The same year found Bower performing drum duties with CORROSION OF CONFORMITY for touring purposes deputizing for an injured Reed Mullins. Bower also supported for some dates on the tour with his side band CLEARLIGHT.

EYEHATEGOD would still be going strong as 2002 drew in, citing a line-up of vocalist Mike Williams, guitarist Jimmy Bower, Joe LaCaze on drums and newest recruit Gary Mader on bass guitar. The band would feature two tracks, '30$ Bag' and 'Jack Ass In The Will Of God' recorded at the Hollywood Roxy in September of 2001, included on the Century Media tenth anniversary DVD release.

EYEHATEGOD would gain the distinction of being the debut release for Ben Falgoust of GOATWHORE and SOILENT GREEN and Jay Branch of SKINCRAWL's new label Incision Records with a limited edition split 7" affair in alliance with SOILENT GREEN. Restricted to just 2,000 pieces the record was made even more collectable by the fact that 500 of these would be in either clear or coloured swirl vinyl.

EYEHATEGOD would participate in a tribute concert to the late Johnny Morrow of IRON MONKEY at the Nottingham Rock City venue in the UK during August, building a series of club gigs around the event. EYEHATEGOD would participate in a tribute concert to the late Johnny Morrow of IRON MONKEY at the Nottingham Rock City venue in the UK during August, building a series of club gigs, supported by MYWAR and LABRAT, around the event. Cited as Morrow's favourite act, EYEHATEGOD reportedly bore their own travel costs in order to fulfil these shows. With Jimmy Bower already committed to tour work in North America with DOWN the band pulled in ex-HAWG JAW guitarist Gary Mader and Marvin of the VARUKERS and CHAOS UK to handle bass. Vocalist Mike Williams would arrive in the UK upfront of the main EYEHATEGOD contingent to lay down vocal tracks on a MYWAR album project that was originally to have included Morrow.

A further union with SOILENT GREEN had the band commiting the track 'The Age Of Bootcamp' to a split 7" single through Incision Records. The summer of 2002 would also bring confirmation that Jimmy Bower was involved in a heavyweight brand new band project entitled JONES'S LOUNGE. His compatriots in this endeavour comprised EXHORDER and FLOODGATE frontman Kyle Thomas, Dax Thieler of GREEN LEAF CULT as well as Jason Portera from PITS VS. PREPS. A debut JONES'S LOUNGE album would see production handled by former UGLY KID JOE guitarist Dave Fortman.

With the demise of EYEHATEGOD in 2003 following Jimmy Bowers enrollment into SUPERJOINT RITUAL the core of the band, Mike Williams, Joey Lacaze, Brian Patton, Gary Mader and Mark Schultz, founded OUTLAW ORDER. Signing to Southern Lord, OUTLAW ORDER debuted with the 'Legalise Crime' EP.

June of 2004 saw EYEHATEGOD's first trio of albums 'In The Name Of Suffering', 'Take As Needed For Pain' and 'Dopesick', the latter sporting the German issue bondage cover art, re-released on vinyl format through Emetic Records. Each LP was limited to 1,000 copies. EYEHATEGOD's track 'Serving Time In The Middle Of Nowhere' appeared in the Paramount movie 'Without A Paddle', starring Seth Green, Matthew Lillard, and Dax Shepard.

EYEHATEGOD would be subject to rumours stating the band had signed to Prosthetic Records in early 2005, although this was swiftly denied. North American touring in June found the band forming a road alliance with BYZANTINE and Canadians BURIED INSIDE. The album 'Preaching the End-Time Message', issued via Emetic in May, collected together EYEHATEGOD tracks previously featured on split 7" singles, two cuts recorded live in Japan, alternate versions and three new songs recorded in March 2005, '36 Beers And A Ball Of String', 'International Narcotic' and 'Turn Troubled Tables'. The band would contribute their rendition of 'Easy As It Was' to a 2005 MELVINS tribute album, 'We Reach: The Music Of The Melvins', through Fractured Transmitter Records.

EYEHATEGOD's 15th August gig at New York's famous CBGB's club in New York City proved notable for the guest inclusion of PANTERA, SUPERJOINT RITUAL and DOWN frontman Philip Anselmo as fill in guitarist. With band members properties blasted by Hurricane Katrina during September EYEHATEGOD closed the month with further woes as Michael Williams, apparently on probation, was arrested and incarcerated in Morgan City Jail for a "narcotics charge".

To raise funds for the EYEHATEGOD musicians Emetic Records assembled the benefit CD 'For The Sick - A Tribute To Eyehategod'. Amongst those donating their renditions would be BRUTAL TRUTH, especially re-united for the appearance, with 'Sister Fucker', WATCH THEM DIE with 'Serving Time in the Middle of Nowhere', BURIED AT SEA and Kevin Sharp with 'White N.gger', BYZANTINE with 'Shop Lift', ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY with 'God Song', SWARM OF THE LOTUS with 'Blood Money', RAGING SPEEDHORN with '30$ Bag' amongst many more.

In 2006 EYEHATEGOD re-released their rare '99 Miles Of Bad Road' EP, originally on 7" vinyl, on CD through Canada's Moshpit Tragedy Records. This version added extra live tracks and video.

During early 2009 Michael Williams joined forces with Ryan McKern in a Noise/Electro Punk duo THE GUILT OF… The group's full-length debut was completed in Louisiana that April.
