Biography
Western Massachusetts Metal outfit initially founded as a side project of SHADOWS FALL vocalist Phillip Labonte. The frontman had been a guitarist with PERPETUAL DOOM as a teenager, switching to the role of lead vocalist for SHADOWS FALL. Upon his departure from that act in 1999, ALL THAT REMAINS status was elevated to his priority act. The band included erstwhile NEITHER WORLD guitarist Oli Hebert, HEDRED guitarist Chris Bartlett, ex-EXHUMED and SCATTERED REMNANTS bassist Dan Egan and drummer Mike Bartlett, another former HEDRED member.
The band's debut album 'Behind Silence And Solitude' saw release in North America through the Metal Blade label in March 2002. During May guitarist Mike Martin, a veteran of FLATLINED and UNEARTH, would replace the recently departed Chris Bartlett.
'Behind Silence And Solitude' would be licensed to the Lifeforce label for European distribution in May. During mid June, Labonte would be in the frame as fill in temporary vocalist for KILLSWITCH ENGAGE. North American touring was scheduled for late September with SWORN ENEMY and BLOODLET acting as support. A further run of dates throughout November and December had the band hooking up with package billings comprising BLOODLET, TODAY IS THE DAY, BONGZILLA, CREMATORIUM, ORIGIN and SCAR CULTURE.
A new studio album, entitled 'This Darkened Heart' produced by KILLSWITCH ENGAGE guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, was set for March 2004 release through Prosthetic Records. September / October US dates had the band uniting with SHADOWS FALL, CANDIRIA and FULL BLOWN CHAOS. A further national US tour, dubbed 'Mock The Vote' commencing on 26th October in Norfolk, Virginia, would be as support to GWAR and DYING FETUS.
The band opened 2005 with a set of US dates in January, heading up a touring package with TRIVIUM, IT DIES TODAY and THE ACACIA STRAIN. They then hooked up with a further run of shows into February allied with GWAR and ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY. ALL THAT REMAINS filmed their performance at the second annual 'Springfield Rock Fest' on 22nd May for subsequent release on DVD. That same month bassist Matt Deis exited, subsequently joining CKY, being superseded by Josh Venn from BLOOD HAS BEEN SHED.
The Summer of 2005 found the group participating in the US 'Sounds of the Underground' touring extravaganza, a collaboration between independent labels Ferret Music, Prosthetic Records, Trustkill Records and Metal Blade Records. The mammoth billing for these shows saw the band sharing stages with CLUTCH, OPETH, POISON THE WELL, FROM AUTUMN TO ASHES, CHIMAIRA, NORMA JEAN, EVERY TIME I DIE, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, THROWDOWN, HIGH ON FIRE, DEVILDRIVER, UNEARTH, A LIFE ONCE LOST and GWAR. Regional additions included MADBALL and TERROR, splitting the East and West portions of the tour respectively, THE RED CHORD on the East Coast, FEAR BEFORE THE MARCH OF FLAMES in the Midwest and Southeast and HIMSA for Western gigs. Further US touring witnessed an alliance with CHIMAIRA and 3 INCHES OF BLOOD. The band announced the addition of new bassist Jeanne Sagan in August, previously with LIGHT IS THE LANGUAGE, this version of the band engaging in touring throughout November sharing stages with ARCH ENEMY, MNEMIC and A PERFECT MURDER.
The group set to recording a new album, 'The Fall Of Ideals', in March 2006, working with Adam Dutkiewicz of KILLSWITCH ENGAGE and the SOILWORK credited Peter Wichers. Crossing the Atlantic, the band alongside CHIMAIRA, UNEARTH, TERROR, MADBALL and MANNTIS teamed up for the European edition of the 'Sounds of the Underground' tour, commencing May 10th in Manchester, England. 'Ozzfest' loomed for the 2006 summer touring season, the group the hitting Canada as a warm up in June, flanking UNEARTH, THE RED CHORD, A LIFE ONCE LOST, WALLS OF JERICHO and IF HOPE DIES, before sharing the festival stages with OZZY OSBOURNE, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, HATEBREED, LACUNA COIL, DISTURBED, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, UNEARTH, BLEEDING THROUGH, NORMA JEAN, A LIFE ONCE LOST, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, THE RED CHORD, FULL BLOWN CHAOS, WALLS OF JERICHO, ATREYU and BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME. The group set up further American shows for September, backed up by DRAGONFORCE and HORSE THE BAND. The union with DRAGONFORCE continued when both bands toured the UK together in November and December. The group scored further valuable exposure when their track 'Six' was included on the soundtrack to the Playstation 360 game video 'Guitar Hero II'.
The band teamed up with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE and BURY YOUR DEAD for a number of US dates commencing November 9th at the Tremont Music Hall in Charlotte, North Carolina, with dates continuing through until December 20th at Lupo's at The Strand in Providence, Rhode Island. For these concerts the VITAL REMAINS, DIVINE HERESY and HATE ETERNAL credited Tim Yeung manned the drums.
ALL THAT REMAINS, having announced the addition of former DIECAST drummer Jason Costa to the group's ranks, embarked upon a full North American headlining tour schedule beginning in late January 2007. The support bill came from MISERY SIGNALS, THE HUMAN ABSTRACT plus split support from CELLADOR and labelmates LIGHT THIS CITY. Meantime, former band bass player Jason Wood joined IT DIES TODAY in the lead vocal position. Ex-drummer Shannon Lucas was inducted into THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER.
European concerts, kicking off on March 29th at the Magnet Club in Berlin, Germany witnessed a package deal with MISERY SIGNALS and TEXTURES. For UK dates ETERNAL LORD were added to the billing.
The band formed up part of the massive 'Vans Warped Tour' billing for 2008 summer US shows commencing 23rd July at the Tweeter Center for the Performing Arts in Mansfield, Massachusetts, closing 17th August in Los Angeles, California. This enormous billing had the band sharing stages with BRING ME THE HORIZON, THE BRONX, ANBERLIN, ARCHITECTS, AS I LAY DYING, CHIODOS, COBRA STARSHIP, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, EVERGREEN TERRACE, EVERY TIME I DIE, MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER, NORMA JEAN, PARAMORE, PROTEST THE HERO and many more.
The album 'Overcome' hit no. 16 on the national Billboard charts. The group scored an unexpected radio hit with the track 'Two Weeks', which was still gaining momentum in early 2009. The band co-headlined the New England Metal and Hardcore festival. Touring saw dates supporting SLIPKNOT in May prior to a batch of Canadian shows guesting for DISTURBED.
In April 2009, more than seven months after 'Overcome' originally entered The Billboard Top 200, the album re-entered the chart at no. 191 after it sold another 2,700 copies. To that date, the album had shifted 151,000 units in the United States
