Biography

THE ACACIA STRAIN, founded in 2001, is a Chicopee / Springfield, Massachusetts sextet, named after a locust borne virus and, for a time, novelly employing three guitars. The debut quartet comprised vocalist Vincent Bennett, guitarist Daniel Laskeiwitz, bassist Karrie Whitfield and drummer Ben Abert.

The trio of guitars came about by accident when Daniel Laskeiwitz injured his shoulder. Stand in Daniel Daponde plugged the gap but Laskeiwitz recovered in time for the band's next gig, an October 2002 support to EXHUMED, and the resulting three pronged guitar arsenal. Drummer Ben Abert was previously with X HOMICIDE X whilst various members have an undisclosed Grindcore history.

Devil's Head Recordings issued THE ACACIA STRAIN's debut album, 'And Life Is Very Long', in December 2003. The group also cut a version of SLAYER's 'Seasons In The Abyss' for a split 7" single shared with LOYAL TO THE GRAVE. That same year bassist Karrie Whitfield would co-found an extracurricular band activity dubbed BURN YOUR WISHES in union with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, UNEARTH guitarist Ken Suzi and PICTURES OF GABRIEL man Paul DeBenedictis on drums.

Signing to Prosthetic Records the band worked with producer Adam Dutkiewicz at Zing Studios in Westfield on the album 'Three Seven Fifty'. Guest vocals came courtesy of AFTERSHOCK's Toby Dukeiwicz. Karrie Whitfield would exit in favour of Jeanne Sagan of LIGHT IS THE LANGUAGE, subsequently superseded by Jon Preston. However, Preston's place was then taken by ex-DEADWATER DROWNING man Seth Coleman. As a side project, Bennett and Daniel Daponde also found time to fire up the XHOMICIDE venture.

In October of 2004 longstanding drummer Ben Abert departed. Acting as fill in would be Mark Castillo of BURY YOUR DEAD. The band opened 2005 with a set of US dates in January, heading up a touring package with ALL THAT REMAINS, IT DIES TODAY and TRIVIUM. The band put in Autumn US dates in partnership with BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, THE RED CHORD and FROM A SECOND STORY WINDOW. Another change in personnel saw Kevin Boutot, of A THOUSAND FALLING SKIES, taking over on drums.

The band, working together with Adam Dutkiewicz behind the production desk, commenced work on a new album on 1st December. THE ACACIA STRAIN, employing Jack Strong on bass, engaged in US dates throughout February 2006 backed by HIMSA, A LIFE ONCE LOST, DARKEST HOUR and DEAD TO FALL. Further US shows throughout June had the band working alongside SOILENT GREEN and DEMIRICOUS. The group toured the United States from Virginia to the West Coast closing in South Carolina throughout November, alongside Prosthetic labelmates THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD plus FROM A SECOND STORY WINDOW and IF HOPE DIES. Guitarist Dan Daponde relinquished his position before the close of the year, citing health problems.

2007 opened with a January/February US tour alongside JOB FOR A COWBOY, PYSOPUS, SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY and DAATH. THE ACACIA STRAIN then announced plans to embark on a European tour commencing March 23rd playing alongside Belgium's LENG TCH'E and Holland's THE ARCHITECHT. HATEBREED teamed up with GOD FORBID, EVERGREEN TERRACE, THE ACACIA STRAIN and AFTER THE BURIAL for the North American "Monsters Of Mayhem II Tour" commencing mid-May. Briefly, the band employed UNHOLY guitarist Jonathan Dennison.

Band members and producer Zeuss convened at Planet Z Studios on April 13th 2008 to track music for their next opus. In June THE ACACIA STRAIN embarked on a month long US headlining tour dubbed the 'Sun Your Bunz' tour with support from ALL SHALL PERISH and IN THE FLOOD. The band's fourth studio album, 'Continent', arrived August 19th through Prosthetic Records.
