Biography

Northern Massachusetts Grind-edged Hardcore outfit THE RED CHORD, including erstwhile ICTUS personnel vocalist Guy Kozowyk and guitarist Kevin Rampelberg, took their name from a line signifying a slit throat in Alan Berg's stage play 'Wozzeck'. The band debuted live in August of 2000 at the Cafe Mio in Taunton, Massachusetts sharing the stage with UNDYING and BLOOD HAS BEEN SHED. Line-up changes then saw the introduction of second guitarist Mike 'Gunface' and Adam Wentworth of BEYOND THE SIXTH SEAL. The inaugural album, 'Fused Together In Revolving Doors' released on the Robotic Empire imprint, was recorded with producer Andrew Schneider over just four days in December of 2001.

THE RED CHORD adopted a new rhythm section as 2004 dawned, losing the services of bass player Adam Wentworth, going on to join PREMONITIONS OF WAR, and drummer Mike Justain, maintaining his involvement in UNEARTH. As replacements the band drafted Gregory Weeks of BEYOND THE SIXTH SEAL and DEAD WATER DROWNING's Jon Dow on drums. Touring throughout April had THE RED CHORD partnered with SIX FEET UNDER, BURY YOUR DEAD, THE HEAVILS and ON BROKEN WINGS.

The debut 'Fused Together In Revolving Doors' would be the subject of a lavish re-issue in 2004, adding demo tracks, a full concert performance and the video clip for 'Dreaming In Dog Years'. The band signed to Black Market Activities Records, a subsidiary of Metal Blade, in March. New man behind the drum kit in May would be John Longstreth of ORIGIN, ANGEL CORPSE, SKINLESS and EXHUMED. However, by September Longstreth was out, temporarily joining DYING FETUS in October (and subsequently the reunited DIM MAK), and former drummer Mike Justain was acting as stand in. The band entered Planet Z Studios in Hadley, Massachusetts on 1st November with producer Zeuss to craft their sophomore full-length album 'Clients'. They would spend much of that month auditioning potential drummers, finally selecting EVISCERATE's Brad Fickeisen.

US touring in March of 2005 had THE RED CHORD announcing a touring partnership with DROWNINGMAN then embarking on April dates BURY YOUR DEAD, A LIFE ONCE LOST and IF HOPE DIES. To coincide the band filmed a promotional video for the track 'Antman' with director Dave Brodsky. The band put in Autumn US dates in partnership with BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, THE ACACIA STRAIN and FROM A SECOND STORY WINDOW. Maintaining the road ethic, the band allied with HIGH ON FIRE, THE CHARIOT and EVERY TIME I DIE for a month long, 27 city trek launching on 7th September in Poughkeepsie, New York. Crossing the Atlantic, THE RED CHORD engaged with the European 'Persistence' tour in December, ranked alongside AGNOSTIC FRONT, HATEBREED, NAPALM DEATH, BORN FROM PAIN, BLEED THE SKY and FULL BLOWN CHAOS.

The band's relentless live campaigning continued unabated into 2006 as they forged a road union in North America throughout February with THROWDOWN, STILL REMAINS and A DOZEN FURIES, then in March alongside THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, THROWDOWN and THE AGONY SCENE.

'Ozzfest' loomed for the 2006 summer touring season, the group hitting Canada as a warm up in June, flanking ALL THAT REMAINS, UNEARTH, A LIFE ONCE LOST, WALLS OF JERICHO and IF HOPE DIES, before sharing the festival stages with OZZY OSBOURNE, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, HATEBREED, LACUNA COIL, DISTURBED, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, UNEARTH, BLEEDING THROUGH, NORMA JEAN, A LIFE ONCE LOST, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, ATREYU, FULL BLOWN CHAOS, WALLS OF JERICHO, ALL THAT REMAINS and BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME. May 2007 UK and European shows had the band partnered up with FROM A SECOND STORY WINDOW.

The band hit the US touring circuit again kicking off on 9th July 2008 at the White River Amphitheatre in Auburn, Washington as part of the 'Rockstar Energy Mayhem' tour billed alongside DISTURBED, SLIPKNOT, UNDEROATH, WALLS OF JERICHO, MACHINE HEAD, SUICIDE SILENCE, DRAGONFORCE, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, 36 CRAZYFISTS, AIRBOURNE, BLACK TIDE and MASTODON through into late August. The group parted ways with guitarist Mike Keller in early September, the ex-member subsequently working on a project entitled MEEK IS MURDER.

During June 2009 THE RED CHORD set 'Fed Through The Teeth Machine' as the title of its fourth album. This set was recorded at Backyard Studios, owned by the band's former guitarist Jonny Fay, and subsequently mixed and mastered by Chris Harris.
