Biography
The band known for being JUDAS PRIEST vocalist Tim 'Ripper' Owens first commercial port of call. Owens features on WINTER'S Bane's debut 1993 album 'Heart Of A Killer, a concept outing exploring the gruesome exploits of Judge Cohagen. The WINTER'S BANE line-up at this juncture comprised of Owens, guitarist Lou St. Paul (a.k.a. Paul Kolasky), second guitarist David Hayes, bassist Dennis Hayes and drummer Terry Salem.
St. Paul doubled up on lead vocals for the 'Season Of Brutality' follow up after the departure of Owens, the singer opting out to concentrate his efforts on the club scene and his JUDAS PRIEST cover band BRITISH STEEL. 'Season Of Brutality' saw the introduction of new drummer Todd Bertolette. 'Girth', released in 1997, is generally regarded to be WINTER'S BANE's heaviest effort to date. WINTER'S BANE cut 'Steeler' for the 1999 JUDAS PRIEST tribute album 'Hell Bent For Metal'.
The 2000 re-release of 'Heart Of A Killer' through the Century Media label includes a bonus CD of rare demo material. In 2001 St. Paul would found a side act dubbed SILHOUETTE in alliance with AVALON vocalist Chity Somapala. This union had dissolved by the following year.
WINTER'S BANE bassist Dennis Hayes would be performing live shows with THE SICKNESS during 2002, this band also having been known to have Tim Owens showing up for jam sessions on occasion. There appeared to be a prospect of a revitalised WINTER'S BANE during December as SPIRAL TOWER and POWERGOD vocalist Alexander Koch was tapped to front a new look band. This union would be confirmed the following year, with POWERGOD drummer Haan Hartmann also enrolled. The first fruits of this alliance came in September with the demo 'Catching The Sun'. Koch joined Progressive Metal band SCENES in March of 2004. In July an announcement was made that former HELLOWEEN, KINGDOM COME, SPITFIRE, VALANOS and METALIUM drummer Mark Cross has joined WINTER'S BANE and that the band had also secured the services of veteran producer Chris Tsangarides.
Dennis Hayes rejoined his former WINTER'S BANE colleague Tim Owens in his 2005 founded act BEYOND FEAR. In the Autumn, Cross activated a new band unit billed GOD'S ARMY, a band unit conceived alongside the HALLOWED pairing of bassist John A.B.C. Smith and guitarist Ian O'Sullivan and featuring second guitarist Don Amiro. Yet another band outfit of Cross' would be THE SUPREMACY, a multi-national Metal band hailing from the UK, USA, Brazil and Holland comprising singer Rafael Gubert of AKASHIC and BARROS, guitarist Bill Hudson of CELLADOR, AQUARIA bassist Fernando Giovannetti and keyboard player Joost van Den Broek of AFTER FOREVER and AYREON repute.
WINTER'S BANE returned in 2006 with the album 'Redivivus', co-produced by Chris Tsangarides and the ANNIHILATOR credited Curran Murphy. The European version, on Metal Heaven Records, added four extra demo tracks. WINTER'S BANE debuted their new line-up with a hometown show on Saturday, February 3rd 2007 at the Crossroads venue supported by H.A.T.E. and WRETCH. The new look band composed of founding member Lou St. Paul on guitar, bassist Jeffrey "Doc" Welch of KILL PROCEDURE, vocalist Jeff "Z" Zaigen, ex-MOB SCENE, and returning drummer Jeff Curenton, ex-SEVEN WITCHES.
Dennis Hayes joined ICED EARTH in March 2007. The following month WINTER'S BANE announced issue of an EP to include a reworking of 'Dark Paradise' from the band's 'Girth' album, plus three songs from the unreleased 'Season of Brutality' album in 'Hate Spilled Over', 'Deadman Walking' and 'Brink Of Destruction'.
