During August 2006 it was revealed that erstwhile PANTERA and DAMAGEPLAN Vinnie Paul had teamed up with members of MUDVAYNE and NOTHINGFACE in a brand new project. This studio unit involved MUDVAYNE's vocalist Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett plus NOTHINGFACE's guitarist Tom Maxwell and bass player Jerry Montano, the latter also holding DANZIG credentials. In October this unit, having commenced recording for its debut, was branded HELLYEAH.

Signing to Epic Records, the band wrapped up album recordings in January 2007. The first single from HELLYEAH's self-titled debut album, 'You Wouldn't Know', went to US radio in late February. Best Buy stores versions of the album hosted an exclusive track in an acoustic demo of 'Alcohaulin' Ass'.

Announcing US shows for May and June, with SOIL and BLOODSIMPLE acting as support, HELLYEAH also revealed they had parted ways with bassist Jerry Montano. Rumours suggested the band had pulling in former DAMAGEPLAN basist Bob Kakaha as replacement. Touring that summer saw the band included on the 'Family Values' tour alongside EVANESCENCE, ATREYU, TRIVIUM and FLYLEAF and headliners KORN.

HELLYEAH re-entered the recording studio on 15th May 2009. That same year In Tom Maxwell forged KNIVES OUT!, a Baltimore, Maryland based Alt-Metal act comprising a quintet of Alt-Metal veterans involving drummer Tommy Sickles, of NOTHINGFACE, vocalist Todd Smith, from DOG FASHION DISCO and POLKADOT CADAVER, guitarist Jasan Stepp, of DOG FASHION DISCO and POLKADOT CADAVER, and bass player Dave Cullen, of POLKADOT CADAVER.

In January 2010 ex-member Jerry Montano joined forces with Mark Zavon on guitar, Mike Dupke from W.A.S.P. on drums, and Matt James from PROGRAM THE DEAD on vocals to launch an unnamed new project.
