Biography

Following his split from MONTROSE and his 1978 solo album 'Open Fire' guitarist RONNIE MONTROSE created GAMMA in 1979. The initial line up comprised of Scottish vocalist Davey Pattison, drummer Skip Galette together with ex-MONTROSE colleagues bassist Alan Fitzgerald and keyboard player Jim Alciver.

GAMMA's rhythm section saw a radical change after the Ken Scott produced debut album as Fitzgerald and Galette made way for former MONTROSE, SAMMY HAGAR and ST. VALENTINE drummer Denny Carmassi and ex-THE FREEZE bassist Glenn Letsch. The latter taking the place of Fitzgerald who went on to become keyboard player for NIGHT RANGER. A further change in 1981 saw Alcivar opting out to pursue a furtherment of his education and he was superseded by keyboardist Mitchell Froom.

The third album caught GAMMA exploring mellower territory with keyboards to the fore. This new direction was not unanimous and just as the album broke the American charts Carmassi quit for fresh pastures in HEART. A support tour in Europe to FOREIGNER was to sound the band's death knell. Mid way through the trek Montrose got so fed up with the situation he simply packed his bags and flew home leaving both his band and record company somewhat bewildered to say the least.

Montrose soldiered on with Froom but little was achieved and the guitarist indulged himself in production work that was to lead to a liaison with CITY KID. Montrose handled the band's first demo landing them a deal prior to the act's name change to TESLA.

Pattison was to front ROBIN TROWER's live band in 1987.

compilation of the best of GAMMA's three albums appeared through G.N.P. Crescendo in 1992. The album included five tracks from the first album, four from 'Gamma II' and seven of the nine songs originally found on 'Gamma III'.

GAMMA reformed in 2000 with Montrose, Pattison, Letsch and Carmassi. Keyboards being supplied by IMPELLITERRI's Ed Roth. As 2004 was ushered Pattison announced a spin off project in union with the SCORPIONS, UFO and MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP credited German guitar virtuoso Michael Schenker. This duo, provisionally billed as SCHENKER/PATTISON unveiled plans for an album of seventies Hard Rock cover versions.

Pattison announced the formation of retro 70's orientated LET IT ROCK in January 2007, involving a cast of seasoned Rock players comprising vocalist / guitarist Kevin Russell, of 707, bass player Tom Miller, of the GREG ALLMAN and EDDIE MONEY bands, with Andy Doerschuk, of RICK DERRINGER and STEPPENWOLF repute, on the drums.
