Biography
New Orleans Hardcore Metal band, forged during 1985, often cited as the true originators of the power-groove approach subsequently popularized by PANTERA. EXHORDER debuted in 1986 with the six track demo cassette 'Get Rude' featuring the infamous song 'Anal Lust'. At this formative stage EXHORDER numbered singer Kyle Thomas, guitarists David Main and Vinnie LaBella, bassist Andy Villaferra with Chris Nail on drums. The group splintered during 1987 but was re-established and a further demo tape, 'Slaughter In The Vatican' recorded at Ultrasonic studios, followed in 1988. Jay Ceravolo contributed additional guitar, subsequently replacing Main. This demo gained the band a deal with Mean Machine Records. Debut album tracks were recorded but then progress was delayed as the label went under.
Upon the debut album release, July 1990's 'Slaughter In The Vatican', re-cut at Morrisound Recording in Tampa, Florida for Roadrunner Records, EXHORDER lost bassist Andy Villaferra necessitating LaBella and Ceravolo to lay down bass tracks. However, Villaferra then made a brief return to the ranks before EXHORDER drafted replacement Frank Sparcello.
EXHORDER's March 1992 album 'The Law' included a cover version of BLACK SABBATH's 'Into The Void'. Live tracks recorded at the Milwaukee Metalfest were put out on a split compilation in 1994 billed 'Live Death' sharing space with fellow festival acts SUFFOCATION, CANCER and MALEVOLENT CREATION. At some juncture EXHORDER included bassist Marcel Trenchard, later of SOILENT GREEN and RISE ABOVE.
EXHORDER split in 1994 with vocalist Kyle Thomas creating PENALTY (later FLOODGATE for a 1996 album) and bass guitarist Jay Ceravolo joining FALL FROM GRACE as replacement for departing Matt Thomas who had jumped over to CROWBAR. Thomas later fronted Chicago Doomsters TROUBLE. EXHORDER reunited in August 1998, performing at Tipitana's in New Orleans and Zeppelin's in Metairie, Louisiana. These shows featured Kevin Thomas, Kyle's brother, on bass guitar.
In the summer of 2002 Kyle Thomas revealed the details of a brand new band project entitled JONES'S LOUNGE. His compatriots in this endeavour comprised Dax Thieler of GREEN LEAF CULT, Jimmy Bower of DOWN, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, SUPERJOINT RITUAL and EYEHATEGOD as well as Jason Portera from another Thomas band venture, PITTS VS. PREPS. A debut JONES'S LOUNGE album would see production handled by former UGLY KID JOE guitarist Dave Fortman.
With interest provoked by the ongoing PANTERA debate, Roadrunner Records re-issued 'Slaughter In The Vatican' and 'The Law' as a double pack edition during 2003.
During 2005 Kyle Thomas made time to see inclusion on the ROADRUNNER UNITED 25th anniversary album 'The All-Stars Sessions', featuring on the track 'Constitution Down' penned by SLIPKNOT's Joey Jordison. In May 2006 Thomas joined up with Richmond, Virginia's ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY as their new frontman.
Poland's Metal Mind Productions re-released the two albums, 1990's 'Slaughter In The Vatican' and 1992's 'The Law', on May 19th in Europe with US issue on July 8th in the USA via MVD. Each limited edition digipack title was limited to 2,000 copies. in May it was announced that EXHORDER had re-united once ahain, the line-up comprising Kyle Thomas, guitarists Vinnie Labella and Jay Ceravolo with Chris Nail on drums. A new bassist was sought as former member Franky Sparcello was incarcerated. In May 2009 EXHORDER was rejoined by the band's original bassist, Andy Villafarra.
