Biography

During their brief life span MINOR THREAT provoked huge interest influencing many acts in their wake. The band came together in 1980 with a line-up of Ian MacKaye on vocals and guitar, former THE EXTORTS guitarist Lyle Preslar, ex GOVERNMENT ISSUE bassist Brian Baker and drummer Jeff Nelson.

During 1982 Baker shifted over to second guitar as MINOR THREAT pulled in Steve Hansgen on bass. In 1983 Baker and Preslar contacted GLENN DANZIG of the MISFITS about forming a new group. In the interim Baker and Preslar joined THE MEATMEN. A year later Preslar and Danzig finally hooked up to create SAMHAIN. After a spell in EMBRACE, MacKaye created the highly influential FUGAZI in 1987 with vocalist Guy Piccioto and drummer Brendan Canty, both former members of RITES OF SPRING, ONE LAST WISH and HAPPY GO LICKY.

MINOR THREAT dissolved in 1983. Both MacKaye and Nelson founded the EGGHUNT project. Nelson also travelled through a variety of acts including SENATOR FLUX and HIGHBACK CHAIRS. Post THE MEATMEN Baker joined DAG NASTY then L.A. Rockers JUNKYARD before a stint with BAD RELIGION. Hansgen was later found in WEATHERHEAD and MODEST PROPOSAL.
